Covid-19 Pandemic
« on: March 20, 2020, 11:06:06 am »
I'm guessing all of you have at least heard of what I'm talking about as it seems to be causing some major world wide disruptions.  While here we're talking to each other online I hope all of you who are seeing this are doing well and your disruptions have been minimal although that last one may be unlikely.

Personally, not much has directly changed out here in the countryside of NW Wisconsin although some of our suppliers don't want to take checks as payment.  We've managed to get our loads of feed in but the cows all need to eat and get milked and so far that all works although our prices still suck.

Wonder how some of the rest of you are weathering the storm.

Things are going well for me and mine.  Some shelves are bare in the local markets, but there is still plenty of food availiable (though it may not be a person's first choice).

I share StevenO's concerns and hope that everyone who visits or frequents this site is well and takes what precautions they feel are necessary in this difficult time.  Though we may not be able to physically provide aid to each other, we can provide advice and solidarity, even across thousands of miles.

Here in Slovakia (middle Europe) we´ve got most stores and services closed, except basics like foodstores, drugstores, gas stations etc.

The real problem is the lack of protective stuff (facemasks, desinfections, one-use gloves), not even enough for medical personel, and the boredom - since everything is closed, there is not much to do for us city rats. There´s only so much you can clean and organise in a condo. For me, it is manageable, but my 4-year daughter is inventing new and new ways of endangering herself, our condo, and my sanity :D

Hope the rest of you are doing at least as good, or rather better

Sweden is a strange place sometime, well unless you live here I'm sure it can be very strange. It's a beautiful country, I just hope it will still be in a few months. We have the world record of most years without a war, so big crisis is not a thing that happen here. I hope that we will come together and make the best of this.

The cinemas and sports arenas are closed, but the stores are open pretty much everywhere. Some clothes stores are closing as they can't afford to go on without a steady stream of customers. Restaurants and others will follow when they go out of business. But people are more cramped together on the busses than ever...

I think that many are behaving responsibly and staying home when they are sick and others are working from home if they can. The elderly are mostly isolating themselves, but a lot of people are not. I think the fear of the unknown is the worst, not only in Sweden.

I had a baby exactly one month ago, and have been quarantined the entire time. My two-year-old is quite literally bouncing off the walls and I'm starting to feel pretty tired of all this. Like a blizzard after the fun has worn off - I'm ready for this to be over.

Except of course you can usually get out again not too long after the Blizzard hits.

May the Force be with us all.

My routine hasn't changed. I work with a home client who has muscular dystrophy, so my presence is still required there, but at least I'm not a health care worker in a hospital or nursing home.

In other news, I got a Fender Mustang PJ bass, technically used, but rarely ever played, so it's like new only $200 cheaper. So I can rock out when I have some spare time.  8)

I'm in NYC and it's hard to overstate how bad things are. I've been very fortunate as my wife and I have taken this seriously and have only been out for two grocery runs since the first week of March and haven't been outside otherwise. Also received some good news that three people I know who were in critical condition have stabilized and their vitals are improving.

That's crazy!  I'm in a very rural community so things aren't that bad here.  I've gone for walks every day (no need to social distance when there aren't that many people around).

I have to say, I had an updated adventure of Tempest Feud ready to go for my IRL players but with the pandemic and quarantine it somehow feels less fantasy and altogether too real to run right now.

That may be all the more reason to run it however.  So much of the time there is that disconnect between what a character should be feeling and what the player may feel but if they somehow line up thing may be better.  At least in a game if you screw up people don't really die or have something else bad happen to them which does raise the stakes a little when you think about what could happen IRL.

Someplace on Reddit someone was asking how this is affecting there games.  My response that was that I think I've now figured out what the "mission critical" cargo in a larger supply run will be.
