Now I know how I view encounters and am guessing I'd place this "find and hunt down the enemy ship" as one encounter.  I take a long view on encounters which encourages the use of Fool's Luck but some GMs would say one encounter ends as soon as you'd clean out one dungeon room and an new one starts when you open the door to the next making Fool's Luck relatively useless.  Asking because this seems like an encounter that could be big on skill.

With Fool's Luck in operations Tyro's Use Computer skill is at +19 and if he can use the ship's computer bonus to help (I suspect he's had enough time to make it friendly.) that would be another +4.  In scanning he'll be using "take 10" at least every other round giving the ship a 33 Perception check with Sensors.  With -5 for every 10 squares this should easily scan out 60+ squares while still at a check of 3; colossal ships are -20 on Stealth Checks (even a gargantuan ship would be at -15) and are unlike to have the Skill and DEX modifiers to make that up.  Even a Cloaking Device is only +10 against that penalty.  I hope/suspect we should see them before they see us so we know what we're up against and can formulate a plan.

PS.  If this isn't the start of the encounter Tyro would be spending his time assisting the Sensor Operator with Skilled Advisor granting a +5 bonus on checks.
