Star Wars Saga Edition General / Re: Jedi Missions and Activities
« on: December 22, 2016, 02:16:26 am »
I haven't been back to this in a while. I updated a couple of things and turned it into a d20 table. This should make it easier to create adventures for Jedi Knights - at least during the Old Republic eras. Basically, the Jedi are called in if the Local/Planetary Forces can't get the job done or if the situation is Interstellar in scope - i.e. reaches beyond one star system.

Jedi Missions And Activities
1.) Help Republic Citizens In Need
2.) Keep The Peace And Enforce Republic Law
3.) Advise And Assist Local Or Planetary Security Forces
4.) Protect Or Rescue Important Dignitaries
5.) Apprehend And Detain Republic Fugitives
6.) Suppress Insurrection In The Republic
7.) Obstruct Space Piracy Between Worlds
8.) Deter And Hinder Spice Smuggling
9.) Prohibit And Extinguish Slavery
10.) Defend Republic Borders And Repel Invaders - Outer Rim Patrol
11.) Mediate Interstellar Negotiations And Disputes
12.) Ascertain And Verify Official Or Jedi Misconduct
13.) Capture Or Destroy Dark Side Personages
14.) Safeguard Important Republic Locations
15.) Evaluate And Investigate Disturbances In The Force
16.) Recover Artifacts Related To The Force
17.) Travel To Distant Worlds Across The Galaxy
18.) Gather Evidence Of Criminal Activity
19.) Document And Report Hazards, Dangers, and Threats
20.) Standby On Crisis Reserve

I also have a Threat Classification I thought people might like. It's similar to the DEFCON Defense Level Classifications that the U.S. Military uses. I'm sure it could be expanded further.

THREAT CLASSIFICATIONS
Class   Description
5   Individual Threatened
      One Jedi is assigned
or the mission can be turned over to local security forces
4   Group Threatened
      One or Two Jedi assigned
depending on the size of the group
possibly a Master and a Padawan
3   Planet/Star System Threatened
      Two or more Jedi assigned
Jedi on Crisis Reserve can reinforce as needed
2   Region Threatened
Two Jedi Masters assigned per star system affected
One or more Jedi Masters assigned for co-ordination
Jedi on Crisis Reserve assigned in groups
1   Republic Threatened
All Jedi on Crisis Reserve assigned
Full company of the Jedi can be assigned when recalled
0   Galaxy Threatened
Full company of the Jedi plus any and all Allies

I like the approach. Jood job m8. Now, how about one for pilots... :)

great. great, thanks StevenO--appreciate it.

So this is what I mean should be used as a good start point, for the GM of a → Rogue One Campaign (more like of a "new canon" game)

MAKING THE GALAXY YOURS
The information a GM should consult, for running games set in the current Star Wars continuity (MMXVI) is intentionally nonspecific with respect to threats, monsters, and statistics. While you can use details from any SWSE book to flavor your descriptions of the planets and locations your players might visit, you should in no way consider pieces of narrative -or game material- definitive. They're meant to provide touchstones, not to constrain your players to a narrow conception of the galaxy far far away...You're encouraged to take what's presented in the SWSE books and use to make it yours.

HOW do you handle things like the DC of Force Powers?

Also how do you do with Skill Focus, if 5e uses prof bonus with significantly reduced numbers. (i use skill focus as expertise for example)

Great work by the way. Keep it up.

PS - about encounters, do you use the monsters as they appear vs Jedis in 5e system version players?

reskining sounds good. For techs yeah.

Now again, there are some new Force Powers...(from Episode 7 for example, that could potentially be elaborated, say... maybe a couple new species)  → but this is just a note on new ¨Canon¨, I'm more inclined to support the ¨This is your Star Wars¨approach, where I can use a lot of ¨Legends¨ material, even with the constant changes we can expect they incorporate (kyber x-talls ayone?)

From a → Rogue One ← campaign perspective, there wouldn't be many Jedi tho.

So I came up with the following suggestions (in books). This is according to how useful they can be in campaigns surrounding this period.

I can see that skill challenges may come in handy in these type of games. Also help for gamemasters on war themed games and ERA specific lore here.

• SWSE - Galaxy at War
• SWSE - Rebellion Era Campaign Guide

Also, to add flavor, maybe ....spies and scoundrels:

• SWSE - Scum and Villainy
• SWSE - Galaxy of Intrigue

The following books also help, but should be looked into carefully. Since the recomendation would be away from Jedi/Force users . Anyway, these contatain some Canon (Disney Wars) material, as well as stats for various NPCs of use in a → Rogue One campaign.

• SWSE - Clone Wars Campaign Guide
• SWSE - The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide

(( any thoughs? ))

((I mean, books to stick to, or rules to specifically disallow. AKa ¿What house rules would you include?))

- Force Unleashed
- Rebellion Era campaign Guide

- Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide

The Holonet / D&D Next,

Greetings fellow gamers,
The D&D 5th Edition basic rules are available for free download! You will want to check them out, because there are tons of references to "old school" seetings and gameplay. Moreover, it will be compatible with previous editions as soon as the DM guide is out!

http://wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd%2Fbasicrules

You guys have to check it out, I know that not everyone always has the time and inclination to try a new ruleset, specially one as controversial as D&D.  But seriously they are great! Im not dissapointed, and in fact extremely amazed--after reading and playtesting D&D Next. The latest edition of the game is more than I expected.  It looks clean and efficient. Lots of focus on flavor and fluff. Less dependency on magic items so getting a magic item is a big deal again. I live the Adv/Disadv mechanic. 5e gives a lot of the power and freedom back to the DM so the Adv/Disadv mechanic could be a tool to fuel player creativity.

One must admit the rules are more than a bit quite useful -- even good enought to import into a different ruleset. IMHO Maybe because Rodney Thompson did a perfect work in crafting an integral part of the newest system, and I'll dare say the way spells now work in D&D kinda reminds me of how certain mechanics of Force Powers Work. For example, Im totally bringing "Inspiration" Rules to my SAGA game, as an option for players to reward one another for good roleplaying...

Plus between StevenO and Ritcher, you will never find anyone more knowledge about Saga. Period. End of Story
Indeed.

Pardon... but this is a great thing going. I've been completely stirred up by all of the posts on balancing this concept here! Please Keep up the solid opinions.

I also must reckon that SteveO's determination is inspiring and has actually taught some of us a lot about keeping the game as it has been written. IMHO the "creativity" with home-brews is better handled with the help of this guy's judgement and assessments.

Cheers Amigos

Ill just drop this here!

It is a great Fan-Made "Star Wars Legends" Expanded Universe Trailer.

Supposedly meant to be released in 2007 for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, was finally released in May, after the announcement that the Expanded Universe was no longer official canon, and would henceforth be known as Star Wars Legends.

M.Ark it seems to be a Magic:the Gathering variant format, my roommates play it every other sunday on the same table we do rpgs, so we've had to wait cuzz it takes a lot of time. I think is better for multiplayer and socialization vs the traditional 1-vs-1 :-\

Something to bear in mind is that even though you're making alterations, the fact remains is that even with WotC no longer having the Star Wars RPG license, you're still illegally sharing a document that you don't have the rights or permission to share, even if it is out-of-print and not available for sale.  And LucasFilm as well as Disney are not hesitant to defend their IP.

It's one thing to quote a bit of game text in a forum post, as that's more about clarifying an issue than sharing information.

And even if you only provide the link to select folks, the fact remains that the link is out there, and folks will be able to find it.

If you want to make your "edited" version available for download, that's your call, but just remember that you are taking a risk in doing so.  You may only get a "cease & desist" or the file host site might simply take the document down, or LFL/Disney's legal department may decide to "make an example" and throw the book at you.  There's a damn good reason that the d20 Radio Forums has an outright ban on anyone providing download links to illegal PDFs of the books.

the system in which it is created in is under an open license, and as long as you give recognition to LucasFilm.ltd for the trademarks, and say that it is there intellectual property it should be good, so long as anyone who downloaded said file has a legitimate copy of all materials involved (keep your proof of purchases handy) so long as your just re-arranging existing material (books, official WotC errata)
now if your creating a player revised edition, you could trademark "Light_sabre*" "jed!*" "5ar war5*" and change all trademarked listing, leave out all art work, and have a bibliography listing all the SWSE books, then say that it is an open license RPG "based on SWSE written by Christopher Perkins, Owen K.C. Stephens, Rodney Thompson"
and call it "5W5E (player revised edition)"
there might be a couple of legalities i might have missed, but it works for publishing papers in academia, which often has patents, major corp's and a lot of money tied to it, etc.
i would see if i could retain a copyright lawyer to go over everything before E-publishing though, never can be too carfull...

incredible! haven´t thought about it but seems like a great approach, in any case a 5W5E version shuld kick in before episode 7.
