With this talent, I always had trouble figuring what the Total cost means. Total cost for transaction? Total cost per day? Total cost between two level-ups? Total cost since taking it? I´ve seen it ruled any of these ways...

Or you could even read it as total cost for a given piece of equipment.  I'd likely limit it once per day and maybe only one transaction during that day if you're worried about it;  this doesn't slow the long term use of it as a character builds a stockpile but it should help keep things "below the radar."

Honestly, character level x 1000 doesn't cover a lot of things at least when taken as a whole.  Wealth gives you class level x5000 credits each level and while that is using class level instead of character level those credits certainly would cover a lot of the fees you might see.

Well I don’t know. Currently I’m level 8. If I took connections at level 9, it would mean everything that doesn’t cost 9,000 or above I could get. I’m looking at the prices of the weapon systems. 85-90% of the items there I could purchase with no problem. Movement systems, Defense Systems, and Accessories the things I want there are pretty much Common. The military and restricted grade weapons is primarily what I was concerned with.

Also given the write up for how the licenses work, there should be no need for any waiting. If you have the license, it is assumed you’re with some legitimate organization or a trusted source.

You are able to obtain Licensed, Restricted, Military, or Illegal equipment without having to pay a licensing fee or endure a background check, provided the total cost of the desired Equipment is equal to or less than your Character Level x 1,000 credits.

In addition, when obtaining Equipment or Services through the Black Market, you reduce the black market cost multiplier by 1.

Not saying it would highly recommended but not needing to worry about licensing for all the various weapons and equipment for a Starship seemed like a good deal.

You should note that "class level" when it comes to hyperdriven is the number of levels you have in classes where you could take Hyperdriven.  It's not the same as "character level" and thus Hyperdriven only counts levels in Scoundrel, Ace Pilot, and other classes that give you access to Spacer talents.  The value you get out of Wealth works the same way in that it looks at the levels you have in classes with access to the Lineage talent tree.

…..

Damn, you’re right.

Tion Jher: I appreciate the kind feedback! Regarding your points below:
Trust me, outside of the SWSE wiki page this has been a great go-to for piloting advise. Your other guides are pretty good too.

I'd definitely ask him what he thinks "otherwise unable to" means.
You’re preaching to the choir. I get what you’re saying but that’s just his stance on any of the Take 10/20 things. Even in situations where the book says you can do it for skills like Use Computers, he won’t allow it because he believes there is always a margin for error in any task. Especially, if there is tension involved. It’s just something I’ve grown used to.

Elusive Dogfighter specifically only effects enemy pilots, not gunners. So I'm still not totally sure what it does, but I think it basically means that succeeding on a dogfight check on your turn inflicts a -10 to hit. I might move this one to green.
You are correct. I read that one wrong.

The primary reason it's blue is that you're probably not already in Scoundrel due to it mostly having good-but-not-amazing talents. So this costs you a point of BAB, among other things.

The write up on the wiki says class level unlike the book which says Scoundrel level. So potentially you could just get one level in Scoundrel to pick this up and it would still be very effective.  The wiki also adds you can trigger Hyperdriven after your rolling result was made. That’s part of the reason why I said Hyperdriven could potentially turn the tide on something.

Sure did! Thanks for the heads-up; I've corrected.

The Senate / Re: Force Grip is not a dark side power... why?
« on: November 20, 2022, 03:46:23 am »
I think it’s because by rule the telekinetic powers have been deemed universal power. And while Grip is a specific application of telekinetic power, it’s not dark in nature itself.

This probably also why it’s specifically called Force Grip and not Force Choke. Force Choke a DS power in the previous game (and in KOTOR) but we’ve seen in other media (Clone Wars, the Mandalorian) applications of Force Grip used by Jedi and it not deemed a DS act. So they probably decided to separate the two powers in order to prevent conflict, and so in this game Force Grip is just universal.

Generally speaking how is Grip really different from Force Slam? Your still using the Force to cause injury to someone. The same thing that Grip would potentially do. It’s only deemed DS to some people because Vader used it, despite us seeing Luke use it in RotJ? It doesn’t make sense really.

First things first, love the handbook. I’ve been really getting into the starship section of SWSE since I’ve made a pilot and I’ve been scouring through the wiki pages trying to absorb everything. And what you composited was a great guide and suggestions for doing piloting. And while I didn’t agree with you 100% of the time, I could see where you were coming from and you opened my eyes to a few things. Recurring Success….freaking awesome. Didn’t even know that existed.

Anyway below are a few of my thoughts on things. I hope this thread isn’t dead lol.

1.       A few things, I agree with you on the Vehicle Focus being amazing. Too bad I have a GM that has a very conservative approach to when Take 10/20 can be used. Meaning aspects during combat, he would never allow because he believes chance should always be a factor. So half of the Talent’s benefit would be lost. Lol
2.       I was wondering why you had Elusive Dogfighter so high, then I looked at your explanation and it cleared some things up. From what I gathered Elusive Dogfighter makes it so people within your dogfight after you succeed in getting the dogfight they take a -10 instead of -5. Now that doesn’t apply to so much affect the enemy pilot because if they lose the dogfight they can’t attack anyway. What it effects is, if an enemy ship has gunners in it. Those would get -10 effect. So most Starfighters don’t have gunners so it would only affect other Transports that also have combat thrusters or the few Starfighters that have gunners.
3. I feel like Hyperdriven should be light blue or even gold. Yes, it only has one use per day, and lower levels it’s not great but currently I’m playing a game where I’m lv10. Being able to add 10 to a single devastating Hit, after I know I’ve gotten past the Ref. Def. can really change the outcome of an encounter. Or change the outcome of one of those clutch moments. If anything Hyperdriven has a lot of utility. Being able to save your ass after a flummox roll or putting the cherry on top of a good starship maneuver usage it’s very great.
4. Last thing, for your starship modifications I believe you have Jamming Array and Suite reversed. Suite is the one that cost 1 EP. Also thank you for making me second guess Jamming Suite.

I have other things, but I do want to express that regardless of what’s said here your guide is amazing and I’ll be going back to it for references and a solid second opinion.

Later!
