We've found that running successful space battles is all about the setup and lead-in.

Some characters are just not built to contribute to space battles in an engaging way if they are all crammed onboard the same space transport, and their players aren't likely to enjoy being the shield recharge dude the whole time.

So we include things like boarding parties to be repelled or led by the characters; or putting them in charge of ordering/directing friendly space forces in a command role.  Depending on the situation, they could all be flying their own transports or fighters.

We just ran one where some of the players had to board a derelict starship, getting it back running while disabling it's security droids.  Meanwhile the rest of the players had to fight off pirates and intercept boarding pods.  Once it was up and running they had to fight their way out of the debris field and jump to safety.  The players onboard the derelict and the team's transport had to man the guns and choose between firing on pirates who were attacking the ship, or firing on the debris to make it easier for the pilot to navigate out without collision.

Well the idea was for an infiltrator-type character who specialized in freeing slaves and political prisoners.

I was hoping he wouldn't need to carry a bag full of SFG's, but it looks like it's either that, or houserule it.  I like Faerytale's idea.

I noticed there was a droid mod that lets a droid extend its shield bubble; which was the only thing I found that was in any way similar.

Is there anything in the books similar to the stealth field generator from the KotOR sourcebook, but capable of masking a small area (4 people) rather than one person?

If not, any feats or talents that can do something similar without using force powers?

I actually like a few restrictions.

People think that no boundaries fosters more creativity than having restrictions.  I feel differently.  Anybody can be creative with no boundaries.  It's when you put in some obstacles to overcome that the true creative and lateral thinkers get to shine.

I'll vote for Tantive IV.

I like Elsa.

I'm wondering if they are actually separate emitters.  The metal bits could just be to protect his hand if he grips too high.

For all we know, he made his saber like that deliberately.  The blade evokes the feeling of fire, and could be done that way to inspire fear or menace; just like the mask that he doesn't really need.

the sword fight choreography in the PT looked incredibly unrealistic

ep 7 was realistic enough, except Ren only used his crossguards once

I'd say they need to look more like kendo fights

Kendo makes sense for a normal saber, but with Ren's german longsword would be the ticket.  Properly using that crossguard would have ended the fight several times over.

What FTJ posted about the first order/republic/resistance would have been very useful to know in the movie.  I was under the impression that the resistance was some sort of proxy group with republic "advisors".

I wouldn't have needed to conconct this theory if they had done a better job explaining what had gone on.

Side note:  I loved the prominent stem on the new star destroyer.  It makes it look menacing, like the ram on an old greek trireme.

I didn't read any of the novelizations between rotj and TFA and the plot and what happened since jedi was pretty clear

...and that was?

Well you're of course free to come up with your own METOSP alex.  :/

Doesn't have to be hoth.  You could use mine for any number of systems.

This may be unpopular but I am NOT so sure that it is a lot better than the prequel trilogy.

Agreed.  Remember, a lot of people liked the prequels when they walked out of the theatre too.

I'm not sure Hoth would have a MESTOP that provided anything more than very basic information.  The message will generally come from spaceport control and a secret base in unlikely to broadcast that.  The other time you'd see it is to announce major navigation factors.  Hoth's beacon probably mentions the asteroid field but beyond that is probably unchanged since it was first deployed.

It depends when you play.  Republic and Empire both had major outposts there during the Old Republic era.

Hoth:  "Navigation Advisory:  Beware of scattered asteroid clusters and space debris.  Heavy meteor showers expected along most atmospheric approach vectors beginning in 11.5 hours and expected to continue throughout the standard week."
