I'm thinking more like a head and two big round ears.

At least certain groups seem to have an aversion to many of the things put out but the current overmasters.

Ah. Well, that's a topic I'll stay away from unless there's a dedicated thread for it somewhere.

Some might define that at anything relating to something that be from something looking like three interlocking rings.

I must've missed that reference?

Similar to the Infinities comics that came out years ago, our group likes to "What If...?" our games a lot. What if Dooku had actually been a good guy? What if Obi-wan fell to the dark side rather than Anakin? It's an interesting thought exercise even if you don't choose to use them in your game.

I recently saw a thread in another forum about an alternate take on the Clone Wars and it made me wonder how others set their games up. My group generally sets up our own AU.

As the title says, do you set your games within canon, in an alternate universe, or a mix of the two?

Unless y'all just enjoy arguing about the rules.

I was under the impression that we were having an amicable discussion where we just so happened to disagree. In any case, it's reasonable to assume when posting a question to fora such as these that there will be, at some point, people who don't see things in the same manner.

If my disagreement came off as overly antagonistic or as anything other than simply an opinion, my apologies.

Looking at it again I'm thinking that what brought on the confusion was the use of "Double Strike" and "Triple Strike" which I do not recognize as SWSE terms and therefore thought you were bringing them from FFG's systems into SAGA.

Sorry about that, I meant the feats Double/Triple Attack.

when converting characters I generally find it is best to just break down what make them "them" in one system and then rebuild in the new system to so they still can feel like themselves.

I agree and that was the approach we went with. One of my players had a multi-attack melee monster and we were cherry-picking the options that would help replicate that. I'll have to let her know that her build will need some tweaking now.

When you look at things that grant multiple attacks in SAGA consider that almost none of them are going to stack.

This helps tremendously. I was pulling out my hair trying to make sense of how/if some of the options stack.

I hope my comments on Twin Weapon Style weren't too confusing.  If they were I could always try again.

Not at all, I appreciate the help. I haven't ran Saga edition for several years and since then we've been bouncing around with playing wildly different systems. It's taking a little bit for me to get back into the swing of things. :)

Don't, just don't.  You may be able to match some themes and of course a lot of fluff between the two systems but trying to mix mechanics seems like a recipe for disaster.

I must not have been clear. Perhaps I should have worded that differently. We were playing FFG's system. Now we are playing Saga edition. Using more than one ruleset (especially ones as disparate as these two), would be difficult at best.

Now you could use Rapid Strike with either or both attacks made as part of the Standard Action Twin Weapon Style.

There are several places Twin Weapon Style differs from normal use. The big one is that you are using a Standard Action to use the talent instead of a the Full Attack which would normally be needed to use both attacks.  You also must select two different targets instead of directing both attacks against the same target.  Another thing that could possibly be an uncorrected error is that these attacks don't suffer the "normal penalty" for attacking with two weapons although I guess that is partly mitigated by attacking two different targets; IF the talent had said "melee weapons" it maybe wouldn't even be all that powerful as it would mean have two opponents in melee range which is uncommon but alas it doesn't seem to be restricted to melee weapons so someone using two pistols could also use that talent and potentially break it wide open.

Ah,alright then. Thanks. :)

I've tried digging around in the forum, but I haven't seen anything dealing with this particular subject yet. If I just missed it, my apologies (and could you point me towards it please?).

Anyway, we recently decided to convert from FFG's ruleset to SAGA and one of my players asked how (or if) Double Strike and Triple Strike work with the Twin Weapon style talent. The wording kind of confused me, so I thought I'd seek some guidance here. I know Double and Triple Attack can only be used as part of a Full Attack (unless modified by say, Accelerated Strike), but Twin Weapon Style looks like it lets you do something you can already do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so Jedi training is very time consuming. If I'm running a game and my Jedi character at level 3 says they want to multiclass into Soldier, yes believe it or not they are no longer training as a Jedi. They no longer have time for their master or any missions they might be assigned, and they would probably be temporarily removed from the temple. This of course depends on the era. ^_^

That's roleplaying.

I'd like to humbly offer a correction: that's one way to role-play that situation. It's as valid as any other, I'll certainly concede that. You as a GM may, of course, interpret this particular situation in that manner. However, that doesn't mean it the only way, or even the best way, to showcase the player choosing to add a new class to their level.

In Legends, there are multiple Jedi who were known for their fighting prowess. Learning the arts of war didn't stop them from being Jedi or learning the Jedi arts.

Wow. I'm reading what you're putting, but that makes no sense to me.

I suppose my point is: there is more than one way to skin a cat. You don't necessarily need rules to represent some things. However, to each their own. :)

Have you ever read the expanded star wars universe books with Corran Horn? He could not use the Alter aspect of the Force to save his life. It was a Halcyon bloodline thing. But every Jedi using the current system is badass in everything they put their mind to.

This is easily countered: Corran's player chose to show he was weak in Alter-related Force Powers by simply not taking any of those powers.

Neither is "worse" than the other, but I don't understand how you can say that the one with soldier levels is focusing on his Jedi training as much as a level 7 Jedi (that is learning how to construct their own lightsaber).

Unless I'm mistaken, any character with even a single level in Jedi (as long as they have Weapon Proficiency (Lightsabers) and Force Sensitivity) can construct their own lightsaber at level 7 (this may be in the CRB errata).

Star Wars Saga Edition General / Re: How to capitalize on flight
« on: August 04, 2018, 03:51:35 pm »
In the campaign I'm running, one of the antagonists the party is about to run into is a S'kytri. Since this fellow is capable of flight, I'd like to build his fighting style/abilities off that. My question is, how can I do this? Flight in Saga just gives the ability to move in three dimensions rather than the usual two. Is there a way to make a unique style of combat (using the current rules, feats, talents and so on) based around the ability to fly?

I would make liberal use of the Acrobatics skill to help represent the antagonists flight. Acrobatic Strike, Dodge, Mobility, and Whirlwind Attack re-flavored as flight could make for a very memorable encounter. Heck, using the various Martial Arts feats/talents could make for a nasty surprise. Echani Training could simulate the antagonist lifting the players off the ground (or flying directly into them) before being knocked prone.

So far, the only thing I can think of is having the S'kytri pick enemies up, fly high, and then drop them. But there's no way in Saga to actually do that....

Utilizing the grapple rules with the Burst of Speed feat could allow you to grab an enemy, fly straight up and drop them.

Wow, your response gave me the idea of possibly making the feat do an initial +1 bonus plus 1 per 5 levels, maxing out at level 20.  Interesting.  I might have to consider that.

I do hate restricting characters, though some restrictions make sense.  Someone multiclassing into non-Force using classes, for example, is essentially not focusing on their talent.  Someone not taking levels into the available prestige classes is essentially either (in the game) shirking their duty or passing up promotions (likely not wanting to take on extra responsibility).

Yes.  Sometimes I over-analyze things. ^_^

As far as over-analyzing goes, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think all fandom can be guilty of that at one time or another.

Every table is different and what works for one may not for another. At any rate, I suggest that whatever changes you make be communicated to your group before play (ideally in a 'session 0' type format). If it were me, I'd probably print out any changes I made and have them with the book, that way there are no misunderstandings later. Just my two cents. :)

One of my ideas to correct this was to make Strong in the Force a prerequisite for the Skill Focus feat, but I'm not sure I like the idea.  I really want it to be harder to get, maybe even a special milestone to achieve to acquire the feat.  Maybe upon taking a level in the Jedi Knight/Sith Apprentice prestige class a character can take the feat but only receive a +2 bonus, and when they take a level in Jedi Master/Sith Lord prestige class they receive the remaining +3 bonus (the Force class equivalents could take the feat as well).

I've always liked the idea of scaling feats, so I kind of like your idea of a lower bonus that gets better as you level up (this mirrors what I feel actual Force progression would look like). However, I would probably add a level requirement instead of a Prestige Class requirement as it adds more flexability for the players IMO. If it were me, I'd allow the character(s) to take the Skill Focus (UtF) feat at an initial +1 bonus whenever they take it and then follow your progression (+2, +5).
