I don't know depending on the size of the thing it could have that cargo hold because a chunk of its superstructure is taken up with hangar bays and this is what the person thought matched descriptions in books.

When I said it seemed too military I was actually referring to the crunch not the fluff all those vehicles are set up for military operations not exploration weapons/armour/land based.

The Imperial landing craft is nice but far too military for what I have in mind and as mentioned there is the whole room to spread out deal.

I think I'll go with a CR70 modified cruiser plenty of cargo space to mine (6,000 tons) for room to place medical suites, hangar bays, better engines, backup power supplies and the like. Why a mere 20 EP worth of extended range would let it operate for a year. ;D

I prefer not to vere too far outside the rules as it lets me keep things somewhat balanced unless I have a very good idea of why they are as they are in addition to what they are.

I did consider mining cargo space for EP it just doesn't seem to get enough, 500 tons get you 10 or given the way they scale on the larger ships.

Thanks for the suggestions I think I'll go with an armed version of the consular ship maybe with some form of shuttle/land vehicle its not perfect but it seems the best fit.

Its intended more for exploration and maybe a little light trading most of the "exploitation" part would come in response to reports of its findings unless its a particularly rich where the exploitable is easily accessable e.g. a gold deposit with flakes on the surface where they can collect a few, its not the primary role. Its not intended to set down, mine out a pile of X, and then take it home. It is intended to set down or send a shuttle down to a world with no/poor spaceports, let the crew out to stretch their legs, scan for deposits of X, maybe take on some food/water in an emergency that sort of thing. So I don't need a huge amount of cargo space 50 ton's would probably be plenty unless I'm mining it for emplacement points. The ship is government built/funded for the purposes of exploration and locating potential worlds for colonization/mining/etc but it was built large as a mixture of political statement and the belief a larger crew with families would be more stable and able to operate away from home longer than a crew of say 1-3.

I'd prefer a longer consumeables range as its going to be primarily operating out in the rim where it can't guarantee it wont run into trouble and then need to scrape by on its own resources for awhile. Crew I wouldn't want to go over 10, passengers I don't need hundreds I was thinking 10ish crew, their partners and maybe 1-2 children. I'm more willing to compromise on consumeables than crew/passenger numbers. I can get by with 6 months especially with some of the mods but I need 20-30 maybe 40 with kids carrying capacity (crew + passengers).

I'm aware of the distinction between landing and operating as long as it can safely get down and up that'll do as long as I know it so I can through in ground transport or a shuttle or something.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who dislikes that mod.

Good, never saw one of those ships on the ground only in space in the movies/animated series.

Hmmm I'd prefer more consumables/passengers but its definately a possibility with that much cargo space there's room to play a bit. Can that thing land on a planet though or do I need to put in a shuttle for surface landings do you know?

I do wish the extended range modification was actually useful at 10% it adds barely anything that doesn't already have a capacity of years even this 6 months only gets you a bit over 2 weeks added. In comparison adding passenger quarters changes it from 16 to over 60 that's 6 times as many people. The same on consumeables would turn 6 months into 3 years.

I'm trying to find a ship for general exploration (seek out new planets, catalogue their natural resources, maybe mine, pick, trade for some of said resources) not intended for PC use and I was hoping someone might know of one that could work. I'm looking for the following . . .

1) Moderately high passenger/crew capacity: 20-30 people although actual crew number can be smaller.
2) Reasonable defensive/offensive capability: Doesn't need to stand off any kind of military assault just make general pirates/raiders not feel its worth the effort.
3) Long term travel ability: 6 months+ consumeables minimum preferably something in the years range.
4) Some cargo space would be nice but doesn't need to have a lot.
5) Planetary landing capacity a must not necessary that the ship itself be able to land but if it can't it needs to have the vehicles on board somewhere to allow it.

My problem is anything I know of either can take too few people or needs too many to crew it. Anyone know of something that could work please?

To be fair with the movies marvel/dc are suit of limited to the characters established in the comics and they aren't the only secondary characters Black Widow, Scarlet Witch vs Vision, Hawkguy still on the other hand you have ones like antman, ironman, thor. I'd rather liked have to seen one focusing on Pietr and Wanda exploring how they came into their powers. Its the same withe female depowerment in the comics a female superhero killed or depowered to normal human is a lot less likely to revive/regain their powers than a man. As for Rey she has potential but I do have a few . . . doubts such as her knowing all about starships including how to trip the circuit breakers on that garbage scow even though she's been scavenging on a desert planet since she was a little girl yet still manages to pull the wrong one. She could be good or bad and verging into mary sue would be as annoying as making her helpless. Anyway for the record my favorite disney princess is Anna from Frozen.

Yep like the prequel jumps they did or Yoda's impersonation of a ping pong ball.

And the starkiller base isn't a huge rip off of the death star? Seriously phantom energy travelling faster than light, creating pocket novas by igniting planet cores that then travel back along the space time rift but don't hit the planet said energy originated from? Bleh thats even worse than the other insta travel/transmissions going on in that movie.

Not buying it either.

Than you so much for that, I just got up and when I read your post the first image that popped into my head was a group of wookies doing the cancan.

Nerdist.com had a story that the Han Solo movie will be set at about 10 BBY. So no childhood stuff,  but more like how he meet Chewbacca, or maybe even how he won the Falcon.

Young Han Solo sounds too much like Young Indiana Jones. It sounds like a better idea than it really is. And given how poorly the Young Anakin Skywalker movies are rated, and how much Disney obviously wanted to distance themselves from those, I think it's actually pretty risky to do Young Han Solo.

Since they're not setting up an existing Jedi Order in the sequel trilogy, I really wish they would go back in time to a big Jedi/Sith conflict with the movies, instead of milking the OT characters and situations to death.

Is that another name for the prequels or are there actually young anakin skywalker movies out there?

And stopping a lightspeed ENERGY blast in midair isn't?
