one thing I miss about the RCR was that everybody even the Emperor was alot more vulnerable to forced surrender to that guy who could threaten a "coup de grace" by drawing a blaster on you before you realized what's going.

In Saga that direct to wound points threat isn't there.  which for most, is a boon.

Adding hit locations as I described in a different thread puts Saga in between the two systems in terms of lethality

based on the minitatures, I'd say you could use an e-11 blaster rifle with the stock folded as a clumsy hilt for a lightsaber.

It certainly wouldn't be ideal for melee combat, however you do get the pistol-whipping leverage

Technically there is no limit on sub processors that I can see, but seriously, shouldn't there be?

The subprocessor entry states that it may only have one specialized subprocessor.   I'm willing to give your DM the benefit of the doubt about overlooking how many subprocessors a droid could have, but this error should be corrected as soon as possible for your DM.

ah, thanks sienn

Hey StevenO don't be that guy

Star Wars Saga Edition General / Faced a group of droid NPCs....

So the other day we faced this group of Droid NPCs which each had 7 sub processors - two for using droid shield mastery, two for aiming, and 3 for using the recover action.

Each one of these Droids could;

aim as a free action (and they all had Hunter's Mark, Debilitating Shot, and Careful and Deadeye)

fully recharge their shields as free action

move +1 CT as a free action, essentially up to +4 CT since recovering is a free action

Technically there is no limit on sub processors that I can see, but seriously, shouldn't there be?  He DMs another group I play in where we have a Replica Droid npc, and when he hears about this (which the GM will undoubtedly recant the tale, there isn't much that scratches my solari-jenraux dual-guard shoto wielding codru Ji with Lightsaber specialist) the Droid is undoubtedly going to go for it.  The power gamer in me says let it happen but the responsible part says I should discourage it

yeah so I think even you would agree if all you can wear is a blast vest and helmet, the Imperial Knight's Armor Mastery isn't so broken.

yeah I was generalizing about ability adjustments

On a side note, I think that near-human in the UR sourcebook should be able to choose small, medium, or large as their size.

After all, shouldn't pygmies have stats?

Weapon Shift will give you a +2 bonus with the club attack, and since bayonet + club damage isn't all that great he may let you apply it to the bayonet attack.

Got an admiration for Yoda?  Want to be just as badass, but more, shall we say, "gamey", like if Yoda is beef, you want to be venison.  I'm going to talk about combos that are especially useful for small-characters, so

So, what you'll to do is look at your strengths.  First of all, there are only a few small-sized characters to choose from.  Most of them have a +2 bonus to dexterity, and ALL small sized characters get a +1 bonus to reflex.

So, that's essentially a +2 bonus to Reflex.  Now, that and the dexterity bonus are you only real advantages you have over your medium sized compatriots.  Which means, I advocate for your small-sized character to take Lightsaber Defense instead of Block and Deflect and Redirect Shot, like the classic Jedi would.

Now, you're probably going to have a decent dex, but likely sub-par strength.  In fact, if you're smart, you'll have a 6 in strength because lets face it, a small-sized character really should make strength it's "dump stat".  That said, you don't have to.  I simply recommend assigning a 14 or 15 to dex, and letting that grow to a 16 or 17 with your species mod, or leave it at 14 or 15 if you don't have one, like Snivvians (which are my favorite small Jedi) because you're goal as an alternative defense method to Block and Deflect is going to have to be the game's default method, which is defense.  So try to boost that.  Grab armored Defense and improved armored defense if you can, a Jedi 3/Soldier 3 could have AD and IAD and 2 lightsaber defenses.  Another lightsaber defense could come in handy so consider entering a prestige class a level late to grab it.

You can't get Ataru until 8th level, so dual-wielding is a great way to make up some damage.  Granted, it's a full-round action, but, you'll probably have the dex for the feats.  Also, the Shoto Focus talent has NO drawback to a small sized character, since you're wielding two shotos, you pretty much get the +2 bonus to attacks all the time.

Now, when you get to 8th level, I would recommend taking Makashi and then Ataru if you are a single-weapon wielder, or Niman and then Jar'Kai if you grabbed Shoto Focus.  If you grabbed Shoto Focus, grab Shoto Master after you get

At level 10, you're reflex will be about 33 with a Dex of 16 and a +6 armor bonus halved, with Makashi active.  It will be 2 points higher if you took Niman and Jar'Kai, however what you need to ask yourself, is if you're better off dealing more damage in a single attack, or if you better off dealing more damage after you've moved in and your target, and will be starting your turn next to them.  In which case, dual-wielding won't always be better.  Your 2d6 average damage is 7.  You'r probably getting a -1 from strength, so it's probably an average of 6.  And another attack for an average of 12, if both hit.  Now, say you have a 16 in strength, and you took Ataru.  Your average of 7 will increase to 13 if you wield it two-handed, however, be warned, if you wield your weapon two-handed, you can't use Makashi.  Because of that, and it seems to me that you will get a higher bonuses to both attack and defense, and only a minimal hit to damage, plus the option to activate Lightsaber Defense as a free-action with a talent selection, makes the choice all the much easier for me to go dual-wielding over single-wielding.  Of course, if you are going to be a force focused Jedi, don't take dual-weapon mastery, and don't take Shoto Focus.  Just take Lightsaber Defense, Niman/Jar'Kai, and Shoto Master.  And, if your Cha and UtF is high enough, don't even worry about Lightsaber Defense, and grab Block, Deflect, and then get Masterwork Lightsaber and Lightsaber specialist, and wield a guard shoto and a regular shoto to get a +6 bonus to Block and Deflect.

Now, you're going to have a pitiful carrying capacity, especially so if strength is your dump stat.  I mean, you might not be able to wear armor at all.  A combat jump-suit might be the only thing you can wear, in which case, I advocate against it.  two-talent investment for a +2 bonus to ref defense is unsound.  2 talents dedicated to defense will on average yield a higher bonus to defense.

Now, if you're playing in a rather lax game, and you already ignore tradition requirements, this could be a prime time to argue your case to take the Imperial Knight class's Armor Mastery.  One talent for a likely +3/+4 bonus to Ref is definitely broken, but one talent for a +2 bonus to Reflex?  I don't think so, but that's for your GM to decide.

backgrounds are great for Bounty Hunters

as the only other way to avoid starting in Scout for the skills you need to get into BH, you have to play as an Anzat to get those skills as class skills.

right, that's why I was saying, an even smaller droid and you can't have as big of a weapon, however those high dex modifiers for smaller sizes the hold-out blaster or miniaturized holdout blaster would be extremely accurate.

With the protocol format, you'd be able to "attack" with it for 2 swift actions, getting you an extra attack if you don't move

It seems an interesting route to go with a tech specialist type character.  Someone who appears to be armored, but is in fact simply the walking locomotion for several droids.

10
This is technically possible, right?  You could build a small sized droid and take away it's locomotion and if it's not too heavy mechanics check to weld it to a piece of armor.

It certainly seems possible to me, so what I wonder is how much that would increase one's CL?

So, you'd be able to attack with it like a protocol format droid with the weak version, and the strong version it would get it's own initiative count and get to make it's own attacks.

maybe even droids smaller than "small" sized...it would be interesting.  although smaller sized droids wouldn't be able to wield larger weapons, their high dex would make the blaster pistols and hold-out blaster they rock extremely accurate...

yeah

I wish Lightsaber Specialist didn't have Masterwork Lightsaber as a prerequisite

if you had superior tech specialist for devices, could you put the masterwork trait on guard shotos, since they give an equipment bonus, so that the guard shotos gave a +4 equipment bonus?

because if you can do that than he is +30 Block/Deflect.  Also increase Charisma to 18 or higher anyway through destinies or different point buy assignment and you're at +30 Block/Deflect...

also to get to use the cortosis gauntlet with the Block talent he would need the talent...but that's as easy as cashing in a nh-lvl

but what I really regret is telling him how awesome a cortosis gauntlet would be...he didn't say if he'd have one or not, but technically it would use his Block Modifier, which would be an astronomical +28.  I feel as though it's not fair...

Although, sometimes crunch becomes fluff

#protip - Never carry a single lightsaber.   Carry several lightsabers, with interlocking hilts, so you can always benefit from two different lightsaber crystals while simultaneously wielding your lightsaber two-handed.  It's every wielding a single lightsaber two-handed is **** up to be + an extra lightsaber crystal.
