2.  None specifically pop to mind.  What reason are you looking at that for which you can not get from some other ship?

I've always loved the idea of a ship having a section that could separate in an emergency. So...cool factor. :D

Okay, so I have a few more conversion questions.

1. Is there some sort of monofilament edge that could be applied to a blade, such as a katar?

2. Are there any capital ships that have a separating "saucer section" (like the Enterprise D on Star Trek: The Next Generation)?

3. Are there any exploration vessels that can go through space and explore underwater as well?

4. In the original game, we had a couple of "generic lightsabers" - a force sword and a sonic sword. Is there a Star Wars variant of these? Would a person have to use a lightsaber? If so, how would you explain a non-Jedi using one (besides killing a Jedi)?

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the help.

The Senate / Re: Alliance/New Republic Intelligence Officer

That was a pretty interesting story Dragonhelm, I love reading things like that. For those who don't know Dragonhelm, he is one of authors/contributers for many of the 3rd Edition D&D Dragonlance sourcebooks by Margaret Weis Publishing.

As for your question, I would say some combination of Scout, Scoundrel, and Soldier, then take a look at Infiltrator, and maybe Elite Trooper, or even Assassin for prestige classes. Remember to make sure your 1st level is in Scout or Scoundrel so you can get the skills you need. For skills I think Deception, Gather Info, Perception, Persuasion, Stealth, and Use Computer all seem like they would be pretty important to a spy/intelligence officer.

Infiltrator may be what I need.  :)

Thanks for the nice welcome!

Thanks, everyone, for the replies thus far. I took some time to look at Galaxy of Intrigue, and there were a lot of helpful things there. Info on New Republic Intelligence, and the espionage talent tree (hope that's the right term - been too long) for the scout have helped.

It also depends on what you mean by CIA type intelligence officer. If you go by the movies you will end up with someone like what has been given thus far. Those are usually operatives rather than intelligence officers. Intel officers are usually not field operatives. I'll try and craft one tomorrow or on saturday and post it here.
Could you give me more to work with as to what you are looking for?

So, a little backstory....

When I first played D&D (circa 1991, AD&D 2nd edition), my first DM was Patrick Stutzman, who worked on some of the Star Wars Saga Edition books. He had his own homebrew setting, which was one part AD&D and one part original scifi (inspired by Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5). Think of a major sci-fi alliance of worlds. The setting centered around a fantasy world that the alliance discovers. We played this same campaign for several years.

My character, Kylun, was a fighter who dual-classed into thief. He's a fantasy character who stumbles on this alliance. In the process, I wanted to carve out a little niche for myself. So, my character landed up being the head of the intelligence division at our local star base.

In my buddy Pat's writings for SWSE, he's had a few easter eggs from that old campaign. For example, my character Kylun became Kai Lunn, the head of the miner's union in the city of Shirkel (named after the fantasy planet of Hyrkul) on the planet Iol. This is in the Unknown Regions sourcebook. He also had a starfighter called the aerosled, which became an airspeeder.

So with that in mind, and with me feeling a bit jazzed by The Force Awakens, I've been wondering what Kylun would look like statted up in the SWSE rules. I'm kind of figuring a soldier/scout (espionage talent tree). Granted, I'd have to figure out how to represent the fantasy side of things. Hrm...

Is there a good way to represent an intelligence officer for the Alliance/New Republic?

I'm thinking of kind of a CIA-type.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help, everyone. I'll get to work when I can on converting him.

Hi, all. I have a character that I played in a friend's homebrew system, based on the White Wolf system. I would like to convert him to SWSE, but it's been some time since I looked at the rules.

I envisioned him as kind of a "space cowboy," before I had ever heard of Firefly (though that could be great inspiration!). He wears a duster and a hat. His duster has a few hidden pockets in it. He wields two blasters (like Jango Fett). I took some inspiration from Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, but he is not meant to be a ripoff. I named him Drake Starstryder.  ;D

Drake was orphaned as a child in a shuttle crash, when his parents died. He grew up around podracing, and eventually became a pilot. He landed up smuggling at some point. He always knew there was something more about him that allowed him to be such a good pilot and shot, but he never knew what it was. He eventually met one of the few Jedi Masters to survive the Jedi Purge. He began his training, but had a falling out and went back to smuggling.

As his adventures continued, he eventually found his way to Yavin 4, where he encountered the Jedi Academy. His adventures there led him down a dark path, where he got hold of a Sith double-bladed lightsaber. Eventually, he got himself back where he needed to be and decided to take up his Jedi training once more.

So, some basic class or feat abilities that I think are essential to the character:

Expert pilot
Fights with two blasters (ambidextrous).
Quick draw with blasters.
Force - Some sort of combat, illusion, and telepathy powers.

So I'm thinking a Scoundrel/Jedi, possibly with levels as Ace Pilot and Gunslinger. I do worry that he might be spread way too thin between classes.

The ship he piloted in the game I played him in was called the Mourning Moon. It seems to fit the description of a SoroSuub Luxury 5000 Space Yacht (Uwana Buyer) pretty well. I have no idea if that's been converted to SWSE or not.

Now, I have considered the idea of having him wield two lightsabers, a la Asajj Ventress. However, I wonder if that might be a bit too much.

In fact, I worry that I may be entering Mary Sue territory as it is. This is a character I played over 10 years ago...and it shows.  :-[

So...any thoughts on how to re-envision this character using SWSE?

The Senate / Cybernetics, Shadowrun Saga Edition, and Star Wars Modern
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:51:20 pm »
Just curious, does are there any Star Wars rules for cybernetics?

It's been a while since I looked at the rules, but from what I remember, the SWSE rules could be used for a modern game. Personally, I think d20 Modern is a neat idea, but the rules are overly complex.

One of the things I've been looking for is a d20 system to use for Shadowrun. Now, d20 Modern (with Urban Arcana and their cybernetics book) could do the job, or I could also add in OGL Cybernet. I think I like the flavor of SWSE better.

Thoughts?

Dragonhelm
Real Name: Trampas Whiteman
Age: 41
Sex: Male
Where I'm from: Kansas City, Missouri area (just down the road from Jan Tolbara)
Occupation: Front-End Web Designer
Interests: Science fiction and fantasy (TV, movies, novels, etc.), RPGs (mainly D&D, Pathfinder, Castles & Crusades, and Star Wars), reading, writing, music, comic books, podcasting, and a little thing called Dragonlance.

Hi, my name is Trampas Whiteman. I mainly go by Dragonhelm online, though I used to go by Kurrelgyrre in Star Wars circles (mainly the first WotC Star Wars forums and the Star Wars-L mailing list, which is still there). You probably know me best from Dragonlance circles. I have contributed to many DL sourcebooks under Margaret Weis Productions, and am co-author of Knightly Orders of Ansalon, Races of Ansalon, and Holy Orders of the Stars. I am the administrator of the Ennie Award-winning fan site, the Dragonlance Nexus.

I have known Jan Tolbara for over 20 years, before either of us got into print. He is one of the people who got me into D&D to begin with and is my first DM.

I have played Star Wars off and on for many years now. I began playing a wookiee Jedi named Kurrelgyrre in a homebrew White Wolf system. He eventually moved to Patrick's game using the d6 WEG System. He has since gone to online games, where we used the original and revised d20 systems. I think we also did the SAGA system for a short bit. I have never had a character go through so many systems before!

I have also played a scoundrel/Jedi named Drake Starstryder, again using that homebrew White Wolf system. I would like to see him translated to the SWSE system as well.

I don't know how often I will be around here, but I will definitely check it out. Thank to Pat for the invite!
