Vehicle Vs. Force Slam
« on: April 05, 2019, 09:50:54 am »
How does force Slam Work on a piloted Speeder bike or car? On A bike does the pilot go prone or the speeder or both. How would that work?
There was a bit of confusion as to how one of my pc's was targeted by force slam while she was driving. I ruled that if she made a pilot check she could stay on the bike when it hit the ground and needed time to get upright. Only the speeder took the damage. How would you play that scene out?

When it comes to "Knocked Prone" features I generally try to look at what it means, in terms of game mechanics, to be prone.  I see it as a stop in movement and then a move action (which likely provokes an AoO) to get to a point you can move again.  Honestly not always sure what I'd do with the modifiers to attacking a "prone" target.

As for Force Slamming someone on a speeder bike, or other "no cover" vehicle, I'd start looking at some of the other hitting a rider rules for mounted combat.  While I know Force Push was a valid option to remove someone from a bike in several video game in the RPG I'd then require that ride check to stay on although if "knocked prone" there would still be a recovery requirement before you're moving normally again.

I would rule that you target both the speeder and any exposed passenger/driver within 6 square cone as this is in the description of the force power.

So, what happens if the attack beat the threshold of the speeder? I think you could just use the same rules as for a creature, the speeder comes to a stop and the driver must spend a move action to get the speeder ready to move again.

What about hitting the threshold of the driver or passenger? Well, they go prone. I would rule that you can't pilot a vehicle while prone, but that would be my interpretation. A driver would have to spend one Move action to get upright and one Move action to control the speeder. If the driver for some reason can't spend a second Move action to maintain control, he loses control over the vehicle and it moves its speed in a straight line and then comes to a stop. If there is any obstacle in front of the vehicle this may result in a crash.

Force Thrust is much better for throwing people of vehicles as it has the potential to move the target several squares...
