Unleashed, revision?
« on: December 12, 2018, 12:00:42 pm »
Anyone else feel like Unleashed lets you use Destiny points in ways they should already be able to be used?  I always felt it'd be more appropriate to simply let you use FP as Destiny Points.  Unleashed campaigns are already supposed to be OP as it is.

When it comes  to Unleashed abilities I do feel that they should basically be seen as an extension of what you could do when you spend a DP without having that feat requirement as well.

When it comes to spending FP in place of a DP there are times I'd allow it.  The catch here is that it is going to cost you multiple (at least 3 but more likely 4 to make it a true cost) FP to replace the DP.  When you can save DP from level to level while you can't save FP that makes spending FP a much easier thing to stomach so it had better take more FP to get the same effect; then you need to remember that you can convert a DP into 3 FP it should make the requirement for multiple FP much clearer.

Especially if you get the Force Point regeneration technique.  Still, the game it's based on has the protagonist throwing around excessive Force powers like there's no tomorrow.

I don't believe the Force Unleashed games were as popular/respected as the Jedi Knight games that preceded them.  FU was just too over the top.

Now as for throwing around "excessive Force powers" here I'd just point out the FP powered enhancement options that most powers have.

If you are spending that many FP, and you normally can only spend one FP per turn, you will run out pretty quickly! Now, there are plenty of talents that let you generate a FP, but is there a way to generate a few FP early in an encounter to power these Unleashed Abilities anyway?

Considering that Unleashed Powers are supposed to require a DP to use and those should be in a MUCH more limited supply having a high FP cost shouldn't be considered a problem. Of course I'm also considering this cost where you could use this instead of DP for things like activating Force Powers and Force Secrets.

Going back on where I mentioned thinking that the Unleashed Powers could be seen as an extension of the normal DP uses I probably should clarify that a bit more.  This should NOT always replace any normal DP boosted effect (such as for Force Powers) except when used during the "dramatically appropriate moment" which probably could/should have something to do with a Destiny besides.  Spending a DP for something the directly points towards completing your Destiny (known or not) it can benefit from Unleashed without getting the feat but doing it for something more general you'd just get the normal DP effect.
