Sorry let me rephrase that and and a clarification.

Core page 91 First sentence
"The Force is an energy field generated by all living things."

Core page 122
"The saber can cut through most materials (except another lightsaber blade, an energy shield, or a few exotic materials), given enough time."

So when DR 10 Talent is activated what exactly is the lightsaber cutting through in your opinions? And yes I know field and shield are slightly different but also slightly the same.

Edit found an official answer FaQ.

19. Q: Is Dark Healing affected by Damage Reduction 10?
A: Yes. Pretty much everything except lightsabers is effected by damage reduction.

It seems it is always/usually buried deep in the FaQ or answered in a different question as above. But I still feel player in the original question makes a valid point.

I don't think Force DR creates a force field or energy shield to protect the player, otherwise we'd see some sort of flash as the damage is deflected. If it did, it would provide a Shield Rating instead of Damage Reduction (like Force Shield power or Energy Shields equipment does). Going with the way the Elite Trooper or a Beast's DR is presented, it instead represents a toughness that naturally resists or ignores damage.

So Force DR strengthens the character's body to make it tough enough to ignore a certain amount of damage, not create a barrier between the inflicting damage and the character.

Therefore, the lightsaber would be cutting through flesh and cloth (and maybe armor), not the energy of the Force.

Very good point and good way to point to a precedent of shields.

Thank you for all the input...

Since I'm flooding this thread with questions, here's another :)

Does the crossguard saber bonus stack with the Shii Cho talent (consecutive block/deflect are -2 instead of -5)?

I ask because I could see it working in the same way that the Scout talent Evasion "stacks" with an area attack and using Deflect

Yes BUT both of them SET the new cumulative penalty to -2 instead of lowering the penalty X amount which means they do the exact same thing and you see no additional benefit from them.

Shii-Cho: When using the Block or Deflect talents, you only take a -2 penalty on your Use the Force check for every previous block or deflect attempt since your last turn

Crossguard Lightsaber: When using a crossguard lightsaber with the Block talent, each successive Use the Force check made to block an incoming attack incurs only a cumulative -2 penalty, instead of the normal -5 penalty. However, a crossguard lightsaber can be difficult to master against ranged opponents, and as such the wielder takes a -2 penalty on all Use the Force checks made to use the Deflect talent.

Therefore this is how Block and Deflect would work with a Crossguard lightsaber and Shii-Cho:

Block attempt penalties: 0/-2/-4/-6/-8 etc
Deflect attempt penalties: -2/-6/-10/-14/-18 etc

Lets see if I agree.  Here's how I see the UtF being modified when using Block and Deflect while wielding a cross guard lightsaber via Shii-Cho:
Block:  0/-2/-4/-6/-8...
Deflect:  -2/-4/-6/-8/-10...

There would be NO benefit to using the Cross Guard lightsaber via Shii-Cho but it DOES penalize each Deflect roll.  Note the X-guard affects the UtF check to Deflect each time it is used, which is why there is the -2 on the first attempt, but doesn't increase the cumulative penalty.

WITHOUT using Shii-Cho you have the following when using the x-guard.
Block:  0/-2/-4/-6/-8...
Deflect:  -2/-7/-12/-17/-22...

You are correct. It seems I made an error in my calculation. Apparently 2 + 2 is 4.

It's ok.  I can see why you made the error as you simply had the cross-guard lightsaber's penalty cumulative as well instead of being an "on use" penalty.  That penalty would be like the penalty you'd get using Rapid Shot vs. the penalty you get using something like Double Attack.

Does the penalty from Sith Military Training (KOTOR page 35) affect the direct target as well as all enemies within 6 squares?

I believe the key phrase here will be "all enemies within 6 squares of that target."  Is the target within 6 squares of target? I certainly hope so seeing how it IS the target it had better be within 6 squares of itself.  Then the next question is "is the target an enemy?"  I'll go out on a limb here and say that at least 95% of the time you have the opportunity to trigger that feat the target will be an enemy; maybe you'll shoot at a friendly or neutral as could potentially exclude the target although I'm not sure how long they'd remain non-enemies if you are knocking them down the CT.

I can see arguments for both sides, but I would rule "Yes" as the answer that would make the most sense.

Simple question.  Want to design a thermite grenade cuz i like setting things on fire (kidding).  I didn't see it in any of my SWSE books, unless i missed it.  Figured standard 4d6 grenade rules, but added in the fire rules d20+5 vs. fort fire damage as described in the Core Rules.  SO i guess my question is, is this game breaking, too much of a good thing, or just fine, and move on?  Thank you all.

you could go for an Arkanian thermal detonator it does 8d6 energy and fire it would cost 3000 credits (thermal detonator with the Arkanian weapon template from Kotor campaign guide)

I guess I'll second khan's suggestion on the Arkanian template in KotOR although I'm not usually a huge fan of templates as they can be problematic.  I suspect the template was put on a thermal Detonator which could count as a ranged energy weapon and meet the template requirements while an actual frag grenade does not as it deals slashing damage.  If you want to be cheap about it, although the template still costs you 1000 credits,  you could also apply the template the the energy ball, ion or stun grenades.

I guess I've never given it much thought but setting something on fire looks likes it is ridiculously simple as all you need to deal is a point of fire damage.  Once started it looks like it just burns and burns without going out unless someone actually takes the time to put it out.  Considering how much more painful giving up a full-round action can be to put it out I can see how it would be a constant annoyance.  The only redeeming feature is that if you're on fire then you're on fire and can't be lit up more for additional damage.
