Remember this is a teaser trailer. It meant to get in interested enough w/o giving you the whole show at once. December promises a full trailer according to the general buzz online.
Remember that it was the folks behind this trailer that made such a big deal about it. They could have simply released it like a normal teaser trailer, but they choose to go the "OH MY ****ING GAWWWD! There's gonna be a new Star Wars trailers on BLAAAAAAAAAAACK FRIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" route.
So yeah when it turns out the trailer didn't quite live up to all that hype people were naturally disappointed. I get that it's a teaser trailer, but this is why you don't over sale. Also, no one owes this movie the benefit of the doubt and should be skeptical and wary of every decision and announcement. This is also certainly the time to voice your opinion on the direction of the film as they still have time to change things in editing and post processing.
As for Lucas, Lucas is like that rich kid who wants to show off his toys but is kind of an **** about it. He is nice enough to let you play, and man did you build some really cool stuff with all of those Legos, but he has this habbit of just breaking or screwing up your stuff. It really ****es you off but you can't really say a whole lot because they are
his Legos. Still you spent like 3 weeks building that scene, **** him.
So sure, Lucas created Star Wars. But he didn't do that alone, not even during the original trilogy. He had a team of talented people working on that as well. Based on what we saw with the prequel trilogy, it's probably a good thing he had that team and listened to them. Back in the day he recognized that Star Wars was bigger than him and he opened those flood gates. A
lot of talent people have worked on Star Wars. Huge swaths of what people love about Star Wars were not created by Lucas. Star Wars is not what it is today solely because of Lucas. Never the less, Lucas has, with neither regard nor respect, trampled over the works of these people and has made Star Wars lesser because of it. In some cases literally retelling worse versions of the undone works.
These weren't fan fiction. A lot of these works were made with the permission and guidance of Lucas himself. So yeah, Lucas didn't earn a lot of respect with those moves, even if it was originally his Lego set. The people who have picked up the mantle have given us no reason to assume this trend won't continue and have flat out destroyed the works that have helped keep Star Wars as a cultural icon. Marvel fans would be having a similar reaction of the movies destroyed the comic continuity and delegated it to a "legacy" status.
