If we decide to play Saga (we're still deliberating), we will start at level 9. The game left off almost immediately after Order 66 and the Jedi Investigator in the party was Knighted 2 sessions prior. We will be fast forwarding two years, so 9 seems like a decent level to start back up at.

If this is your first time playing Saga, I recommend starting a at a level lower than 9. Even if your player is a Jedi Knight, in Saga, class does not equal character concept. You can still start at around level 6-7 and he can be a "Jedi Knight" but not have levels in the Jedi Knight Prestige class. At level 9 you and the players are going to have your hands full with all the power and abilities that come with that level and the great challenges you are going to have to throw at your players.

Compiled files of all Saga Edition RPG resource documents & reference tools - NPCs, character sheets, Sagasheet character generator, Dawn of Defiance, Saga Index, Force and lightsaber form power cards, Web articles, etc.

I also always recommend a "tutorial island" session when trying out new systems. It's good to work out the kinks and further mull over any ideas in a more casual run through.

I agree.
It's even more important when jumping in with advanced characters to get a feel for the system.

Alright, I think you guys have answered pretty much all of the questions that I had. Thank you so much for the information: you've been more than helpful. This system is lucky to have such an informative and supportive community. If I need anything more specific in the future, I'll search or make a post in the appropriate forum.

May the Force be with you guys!

I'd agree with FTJ, to an extent. Out-of-the-box and hit the ground running, yeah shes got it right. But if you want to work things a little, you can certainly use FFG Star Wars in any era. But if you just want to grab the book s and game in another era besides Dark Times/Rebellion, then I'd say go with Saga. At least until some more material is published.

FFG Star Wars is a good system - not perfect by any means, but a pretty cool system overall. Saga is still my favorite Star Wars system, but my group is starting to lean more towards FFG. I'll still pick Saga, but it's no longer supported officially. That's probably the biggest boon for FFG - it's fresh and current. How long it lasts remains to be seen, but its worth playing a short campaign and trying.

Yeah, about that...

I'll still pick Saga, but it's no longer supported officially.

And neither are the other eras of Star Wars. With the 'reboot' over the summer, the only extra content I'd expect out of the new system would be Clone Wars-Rebels and the new movie trilogy.

KOTOR, Legacy, Shadows of the Empire, New Jedi Order, The Sith Wars before Darth Bane's Rule of Two are now out of canon, so I really doubt we'll get anything official for the FFG system. More power to the people who can and no doubt will make fan-books for those eras, though.

If you want to play any era with official rules that have been published, go with Saga. Otherwise, until published, you have to create the other era specific stuff for FFG.

Also, my comment about it no longer being supported was along the lines of no more new (official) books and the fact that the books are getting harder to find. I do wish more fan stuff existed, though.

Edit: big wall of text that was ranting and frustrations aimed at somebody who had nothing to do what I am going through in real life.
