Abbreviations of the Star Wars film titles?
« on: October 18, 2018, 04:31:06 pm »
Is there a site or list of all the Star Wars films and more importantly their abbreviations?

The Phantom Menace - TPM
Attack of the Clones - AOTC
Revenge of the Sith - ROTS
A New Hope - ANH
The Empire Strikes Back - ESB and or TESB?
Return of the Jedi - ROTJ
The Force Awakens - TFA
The Last Jedi - TLJ

Episode IX - Ep. IX?
Rogue One - RO?
Solo: A Star Wars Story - SASWS?

Are these correct?
Should it be ROTS or RotS? I'm pretty sure that there used to be the later.
What about the other ones?

I'd generally use AotC, RotS, RotJ not consider the "of the" in the middle to be important enough for capitalization.  I mean you might see Attack of the Clones simply abbreviated AC with the other two I mention being RS and RJ.

I think I've also seen Rogue One abbreviated R1 and generally think Solo is enough for the most recent film.  I mean wasn't Rogue One a Star Wars Story as well?  I suspect Solo got the aSWS tag more often to avoid any confusion with other things as "Solo" isn't all that distinctive by itself.

Thanks StevenO, that did confirm my view on the matter of AotC, RotS and RotJ.

R1 is something I have seen as well, but I am glad that you can give it a thumbs up. My use of RO was just a guess based on the pattern of the other movies, not something I had seen.

Solo work fine for the latest film. It is not an acronym like the others ones, but I suspect that is what people are saying anyway.

I think that ESB is the common acronym for The Empire Strikes Back, leaving out the leading 'T'.

But what about the next film, Episode IX (9), what are people using when speculating about it? I have seen Star Wars 9, so maybe SW9 could work as an temporary acronym. But Ep9 and Ep. IX works as well. Anyway, we are likely to get an official title in 6 or 8 months anyway I assume.

I throw these two in as well:
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure - CoC?
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor -BfE? or maybe just Ewoks?

Are these even part of the saga, and where do they fit in the timeline?

Any ideas errors or big omissions?

No idea what is being used for the next movie.  Too much other stuff going on to be swallowed up by speculation type forums and while I don't mind spoiler I don't really need to know everything before I go.

Now what are those other things you mention?  Probably should use the full names of those at least once if you're going to start talking about them before turning to abbreviations to give us something to latch on to and google to find out what they really are.  I don't think either one of those is the legendary Christmas Special which I can't remember ever seeing.

I think SW9 is the best choice for episode 9 of the Star Wars saga, until it gets an official name at least. It goes well with the R1 for Rouge One.

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, also known as The Ewok Adventure is a 1984 TV movie in the Star Wars universe made from a story by George Lucas. A possible acronym is thus TEAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravan_of_Courage:_An_Ewok_Adventure

Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, this film is the sequel of the former movie, a 1985 TV movie in the Star Wars universe made from a story by George Lucas. A possible acronym is thus TBfE  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ewoks:_The_Battle_for_Endor

The second film contain a Night sister, Charal who has stolen a force artifact. Both are of mediocre quality, but worth seeing for fans of Star Wars. For children they may be fun, and the low quality of the monsters may make them less scary. I think that they are recommended from 7 years of age, at least the first one according to IMDB.

I think I've probably seen those TV movies (pretty sure in fact) but they never had the staying power for me and I'm sure many have never even heard of them.  Now if the recommended age were 7 meaning you could have been a Star Wars baby then I was a few years "too old" for them which I'm sure helps account for why then never really registered.

I was about 2 or 3 years too old as well, but they were never shown on TV over here as far as I know. You could rent them in a video store when I was growing up, but they were for younger children, so I did not spend my cash on that. I have actually seen them as an adult, but that was a bit disappointing to say the least. I just wanted to make sure I had not missed any SW background material. The second film has some of that, a Night sister and a magic ring to name two interesting and new concepts.

So here is the list of the Star Wars films as of now.

The Phantom Menace     - TPM
Attack of the Clones       - AotC
Revenge of the Sith        - RotS
A New Hope                   - ANH
The Empire Strikes Back - ESB
Return of the Jedi           - RotJ
The Force Awakens         - TFA
The Last Jedi                  - TLJ
Episode IX                     - SW9 (To be revised later)

Rogue One                     - R1
Solo: A Star Wars Story  - Solo

The number of films are now ten, with at least two more to come. So, I needed this to keep track of them all. I fully expect there to be other abbreviations of these out there, but it is nice to have a place to start. Oddly enough I could not find any complete listing of all the films with an abbreviation listed.

OK, so for the new movie. The Rise of Skywalker, how is that abbreviated?
Is it RoS or possibly TRoS or TROS?

I think that it should be RoS, but what does all of you say?

RoS vs RotS....   what could possibly go wrong?

I'm sure you could go TRoS with "The" being the first word and giving it the capitalization because of it.  tRoS would likely get very confusing with RotS as it would now be ALL of the same letter but it you're someone who sometime mixes letters/numbers up it's very easy to see them they same way.  I've also noticed lately that I'm having trouble with The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens because there are these time I want to ask about the THe Last Jedi or something like that and having "the the" just feels so wrong.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!  ;D
Just kidding

Yes, I do see the problems this could lead to. This is why I brought it up.

In case you would like to use "the" before TFA for example I would just insert the word "film" after that "the".

Eg. In the film TFA is is...
