Star Wars: Actionable Bargains

Star Wars:  Actionable Bargains

It is a time of turmoil in the galaxy.  The resurgent Empire has reconquered the galactic capital of Coruscant, and the New Republic has been forced into the fringes of the galaxy.  The fate of hundreds of worlds hangs in the fragile balance.

But while the Empire dissolves into bickering factions and the New Republic deals with the loss of General Luke Skywalker to a reborn Palpatine’s machinations, less savory elements creep forth from the shadows to take advantage of the confusion and chaos.

In a skyhook above the industrial planet of Lohopa II, a band of ne’er-do-wells gathers in response to a mysterious communication, one that promises cold hard credits in exchange for one thing:  clean and efficient work, no questions asked . . . . .

The Houserules

--This is a Scum & Villainy campaign, set in the New Republic era, about 6 years after the Battle of Endor.   The Empire has recaptured Coruscant, but they have splintered into factions and fallen to fighting each other while the New Republic establishes a new command center at Pinnacle Base.  Operation Shadow Hand has yet to be enacted.
--I'm looking for 4-5 players.  I have 1 definite and 1 maybe so far.
--When making your characters, feel free to make them morally grey (think The Italian Job, The Transporter, The Punisher), but let's keep the whole game PG.
--I have access to all the official Saga books, so you may use era-appropriate material from any of them.  The only restriction is on species.  The following species are not allowed:  Celegian, Ebruchi, Gen’dai, Lugubraa, Mantellian Savrip, Rakata, Republic Clone, Sorcerer of Rhand, Ssi-ruuk, Vagaari, Yevetha, Yuuzhan Vong.
--Players wishing to use non-official sourcebooks as a resource must run each item by me.  If you have a question about any material (or if I have one about something your character has), we’ll figure it out.
--I’m going to make this a Force-lite game.  If you want to be Force-sensitive, that’s fine, but please do not make your build all about the Force.  Any Force training that a character may have in this era would be rough and unpolished, or deceptively subtle.  Reflect that in your build if you go this route.  I may ask you to change aspects of your character if I feel it is not in keeping with the theme of this campaign.
--You may start as any class except Jedi.  Normal multi-classing rules apply.
--Point buy of 32 points (28 for a droid).
--Make your character 6th level.
--Hp after 1st level will be half the max on the dice roll (so d10 gets 5, d8 gets 4, d6 gets 3), then add Con bonus
--I will not be using Destiny Points.  Normal rules for Force Points apply.
--Each character should have a background from the Rebellion Era Campaign Guide.  If you have a background idea that does not fit the existing options, I will work to accommodate you.
--I don't know if anyone would like this, but I like to reserve an option for heroes to acquire scars, lose limbs, and otherwise manifest injuries that are normally overlooked in a game.
--a.  If a hero uses a Force Point to save his life, he acquires some minor scar or appendage loss (maybe a vicious burn scar on the torso, or the loss of a single finger).
--b.  If a hero is the subject of an attack or hazard that would deal enough damage to kill the hero and he does not have (or does not wish to spend) a Force Point to save his life, the hero may sacrifice a body part instead to remain alive.  The body part lost is determined by the GM via a special die and is not restricted to limbs.  Limbs lost in this manner function exactly as if the Severing Strike talent had been used against the hero by an opponent.  The penalties for the loss of non-limb organs are determined by the GM (the general rule will be -1 persistent CT and the loss of function provided by the lost body part, with additional penalties at GM discretion).
--The feat Force Training may only be taken 1 time, if taken at all.
-- If taken, Force power selection options are limited to the Core Rulebook.
--Any talent that was previously ‘1/day’ is now ‘1/encounter’.
--Any talent or feat that substitutes one ability or skill for another is subject to the same limitations that the original ability or skill was.
--If you have the Melee Defense feat and take a penalty of at least -2 on your attack roll when using that feat, you may gain the benefits of any talents or feats that activate when using the Fighting Defensively action.
--Credits/possesions:  Each character recieves their starting class’s maximum amount of credits (4800 for Nobles, 3000 for Scoundrels, Scouts, and Soldiers) multiplied by their character level (x2 if they took the Wealth talent).  Note:  I can provide the group with a free starship of the Game Master ‘special’ variety (functional, though quirky).  Or characters are free to purchase their own space transports or starfighters if they desire.
--This campaign is intended as a one-shot, multi-encounter adventure.  There is a definite ending in mind.  However, depending on how the heroes react to different situations, they can alter the ending of this adventure.

Just post it here in the thread.  That way, the other players can see it as well.

Now I've got an outline of what I'd like to do with this game, but if there are specific themes or plot ideas that you may want in this adventure, let me know and I'll try to incorporate some of it.

This sounds like fun, think I'd like to make a Gungan. Of course. Maybe a gambler, a being looking to get more credits to play in a bigger game.

Welcome, Gungan!  I like that idea of a Gungan gambler.  Almost like he might play up the bumbling Gungan thing to make people think he's an easy mark, then he turns around and hits them between the eyes.

Haha, I like to think Gungans, in general, tend to gravitate more towards Captain Tarpals (the one who says "No again, Jar Jar. Yousa in big doo-doo." when they first enter the Gungan underwater city).

For myself, I'm floating between a Human or Duros, something of a techy (so maybe groups mechanic/pilot/macgyver guy?). Should have something tonight.

Edit: alternatively, I've considered a few other species as well. Ewok or Gamorean for kicks. Or maybe a droid of sorts.

I certainly hope so  ;D

Ok, looks like we've got four people (Ghondar with his Mando merc, Sparx with a possible techie, Gungan with a possible gambler, and Reign with his Dashade assassin) so far.  There's room for one more, but I'll start moving ahead with stuff.

You can throw stuff into your background (like rivals, friends, hobbies, or problems) that I can mine for game ideas.

Do you guys want to start as a group (the easy way) or would you prefer 'negotiate' with each other before deciding to work together?

Do you have any questions about the game or anything you want to discuss while we prep?

So, here goes the Mando merc:

Spoiler: Hetton Wenner (hover to show)

Hetton is a big man, and his orange mandalorian armor is made to make him look even bigger and more menacing, with trophies dangling on shoulder and chest plates. He acts aggressive and challenging, as if always looking for a fight. In truth, he likes when someone stands up to him, showing some spine.
He likes to enjoy the life to the fullest, be it in the fight or at a dining table. He doesn´t shy away from nearly any tactics, but he despises violence against children and killing bystanders – it is dishonorable. A bit surprising, he likes classical music and romantic novels, though he doesn´t admit it (probably his mother´s influence).
Hetton is a son of Torkad Wenner, a mandalorian, and Dela Soren, an alderaanian. His father and his aliit (his clan) trained Hetton since childhood in all the soldier has to know, His mother never adapted to the mandalorian culture, however, and finaly left them when Hetton was twleve and Torkad started to take him on his jobs. Hetton never really understood how such a gentle being as Dela could fall for a mandalorian. With the destruction of Alderaan, both Hetton and Torkad were scared that she was dead, but his father has recently learned that Dela was off the planet when it was detroyed.
As Hetton grew up, he started to go on jobs alone, not needing his father's tutelage, though he sometimes does enjoy to team up with him or some of his clanmates. Though he has had some short-lived relationships with women, he has not yet decided to start a family. He is proud that he has obtained his beskar´gam and wants to make a name for himself, while enjoying what galaxy has to offer.

@Ghondar:

You create a spoiler tab by typing [ spoiler= ], putting whatever name you want in the space after the = sign.

I like your build.  Simple and effective.

Ad 1:  I think either Juggernaut or Draw Fire would be good.  Juggernaut keeps you up to speed with the group, and Draw Fire probably works really well with your high Reflex (probably among the highest in the group).

Ad 2:  Beskar'gam is fine.

Ad 3:  Origin: Mandalore looks fine.  You didn't do anything too crazy.

Which droid rules are you using? I usually go with Option 3: Stock Droid Chassis from SGtD, but wanted to check first.

Either set is fine with me.  Both are acceptable under RAW, I believe.

Yoss Jinks grew up in a once prosperous Gungan clan on Naboo that slow saw its fortune ebb during the Imperial era due to the policies favoring human led and larger intergalactic commercial concerns. Yoss, rather intelligent and personable (for a Gungan) found himself working among the human trading partners just as his clan retrenched and refocused their trade within the Gungan communities. Cut somewhat adrift, a chance encounter with Senator Jar Jar Binks convinced Yoss that it was time he saw more of the galaxy. Discovering a talent for gambling and being personable enough to be tolerated at the typical sabacc table, Yoss made his living as a (mostly) honest itinerant gambler, but largely playing for low stakes due to his circumstances. Lately his gambling has led to him acquiring a cheap used Gymsnor-3 Freighter, and he is thinking it might be time to get back into the trading game but he realizes that his skills as a pilot do not include a great facility with navigation computers, and he may need to take on a crew member or partner.
Spoiler:  Yoss Jinks
