So...Did PbP just die here?
« on: November 15, 2017, 05:16:37 pm »
Looks like every PbP here just died a slow, quiet death in the last months. Shadows, the last "active" PbP hasnt had a post since late August.

People get busy, we all know that, but I'm just wondering what happened. Is it just the Saga isnt the game it used to be? Who knows, but hate to see a site like this go to waste

I'm still playing Saga, and I'm currently doing a Starcraft mod for one of my live groups.  For me, the Saga rules system will always be the one (with some additions from others as I go along).

With Shadows, I think life just got to busy for khan.  It happens.

If I wasn't GMing two live games already, plus playing in a third, I'd GM a PbP and put out feelers for players, but changes in my work schedule are leaving me with less hours to plan my other games, and I wouldn't want to make a subpar plot for my players in a PbP.

I'd probably join another PbP if one started (I was hoping bobshadow or one of the others interested in PbP would have started one, because of the permission I gave, but I'm not sure if they've been on since then).

@Khan: Well you were never not bust at any point during Shadows, but you at least always come back. Whatever grabbed you extremely hard this time must be important. As such, its quite okay. I've been **** busy with real life and online gaming demands.

@sienn: I've known for some time of your games on d20. I was glad to see still able to handle teaching and these games (if that is still your profession).

As for starting another pbp, I'll be happy to run in one, but no way will I ever GM again. I'm too much of a power builder to do that to people again. My game was out of control. So I'll be a great player, but I'll only GM if I have to sub for someone

I wasn't busy the first month i think. this time it was both work and just a need for a mental break from gming.

i get the concern with the power building i have to usually rebuild my npc's to tone them down from initial concepts. while i like encounters to push the party they should be winnable.

I'm not a powergamer, so I've had the opposite problem, with the encounters not being challenging enough.  I do try and incorporate terrain features, plus the recommendation of trying to have 3 different types of opponents in each encounter and some additional objective besides fighting, but it feels like players always just overrun the encounter way too quickly.  I don't want fights to get drug out too long, but a 1 or 2 round fight is just depressing, especially all the considerations and time that went into preparing the encounter.

It should be noted that I'm not looking necessarily for advice on improving my encounters.  I just wanted to contribute to the conversation.

Saga was my first foray into table top gaming in general, and eventually I branched out into other systems cutting down my time for this one. Saga is still my first however and I love it! I haven't had a regular group in a while, and I am itching to play again. I have only GMed on one occasion and it was a bit of a disaster, but I would be willing to GM a one shot. Low level, something sort and sweet maybe 5-6 encounters and a simple story, would anyone be up for that? Maybe if that goes well I would consider doing something a bit more complex and long term.

I'd say go for it.  You'll probably get a few takers (possibly me, too).  It'd be nice to have another game running here, and I did feel like the other boards were more active when we had PbP games going.

More games equals more interest and input.
I like my heroes human, flawed and beatable. And failing every so often.
Bingo. Z33B, you really know where your towel is.

I will take that as permission and post something in a few hours!
