The Senate / Re: Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

When it comes to generating NPCs a big fault I often see is just trying too hard.  Using Non-heroic levels means not needing to worry much about class stuff and once you get some basics down making variations isn't too hard.

One problem I often see with making characters in general is that thought that name=concept.  Now when class=concept and there aren't any real choices to make then maybe then that isn't really SAGA; there are hundred of ways to make a "Bounty Hunter" and so many of them do not need levels in the Bounty Hunter class.

Hey Steven,

Thanks for the answer.

I assumed it was errors in the book. I listened to an interview with the developer of this game and he said one of the chief problems was ease for GM's to generate NPC's... and it is true.

Still, one of my favorite games to run, so I will look paste these challenges and move on.

Thanks!

Does anyone know of a specific rule in the books that state that GM built NPC's do not have follow the same build requirements that player heroes do?

There is no rule (except maybe rule zero) that I know of which allows that.

As for seeing the many, and various, stat block error just know that they are that: ERRORs.  ToG is filled with many illegal stat blocks.  Why is that?  I'm guessing part of that may be that many of those characters were built before the game we actually got was finalized and thus they may have been "legal" when first written only to see things change later.  In other cases I'm thinking it might just be something that slipped through the cracks for various reasons.  I'll admit there may be a few where the creator just say "to hell with it" and did what they wanted anyway with no consideration to legality.

If you're building NPCs I'd encourage you to try and stick with the same construction rules.  Now I'll admit I do occasionally get creative with non-heroic levels (nothing saying you have to take ALL of your NH levels first) although depending on how creative I may alter the CL a bit differently.  I have also suggested something like "apply the Squad template to a boss character but don't increase the size" but that's for a very specific reason and as an alternative to even greater "just make **** up" ideas.

I know as GM, I can handwave the reasons why I built an NPC the way I did, but I like to be fair in the builds, too.

I am asking specifically how the generic Bounty Hunters in the Threats of the Galaxy book do not meet the Bounty Hunter prestige class requirement of 7 heroic levels.

Thanks for your insight!

A bit terrifying if you need to kill someone.

The Senate / GenDai Healing/tank Build Search?

I remember back in the day there was an interesting tank build using the GenDai as the species with shake it off healing and whatnot. I believe the character was named Skrimshaw. I can't for the life of me find that build, but if anyone remembers the build concept, could you please post it here?

Goal is to have a party member that tries to help out the others by taking the shots, not completely useless offensively, and if hit wont go down due to damage easily. Force Sensitivity/feats/talents are ok. Thanks!
