What ever happened to the old Wizards threads?
« on: October 16, 2018, 03:59:57 pm »
The ones I'm specifically thinking of are the Post Your Sith Lords Here thread and the Non Star Wars Saga Builds thread (I'm just paraphrasing the thread names from memory). Did they get lost back when Wizards took a superlaser to the SERPG boards? Or am I just too dense to find them here? I tried the search function but came up dry....

  • Dark or Light? Why choose when neither is right?

While I don't have the link handy they may be saved on the Wayback Machine internet archive site.  Usually helps to know exactly what you're looking for however.

I don't know if the contest section of this forum might have some of what you had been looking for.
Over 14,500 post on the WotC board before they closed the SAGA board.

I did look through the contest section, but I couldn't find anything. The one thread was full of non Star Wars characters that had been given Saga Edition builds/stats, and the other was just a thread for anyone to post their Sith Lord builds in.

Thanks for the Wayback Machine suggestion, I'll check it out and see if I can find anything.

Though I can't seem to access all the pages of the Non-Star War Builds thread....

Depends on in anyone archived the pages. It would have been great if somebody could have grabbed an entire copy of the forum just before ti went down, and we could post ti up as an archive somewhere. Probably not something the Lawyers of the Coast would allow, but it would have been nice, maybe long enough to back it all up elsewhere.
PM me for my link to a huge Saga Repository!``

I did back up about 5-10 threads that I like. Most of them by adding them to the way back machine. However, I hade to do it 50 posts at at time. So I didn't save anywhere near as much as I would have liked. It was just too labor intensive.

How do you add stuff to the Wayback Machine, anyway?  I'd have done that back in the day if I'd known how.

Well, it is easy and hard. It is easy as you just search for the URL on https://web.archive.org. If it is not there, you will get a notice that it can be found on the web. Then you get a question at the bottom of the page: "Save this url in the Wayback Machine". The hard part with forum threads is that each page of posts is a separate page, so you'll need to save them one at a time! I'm sure it's possible to write a script to save time, but it is not trivial.

It's great seeing the old names again!  RobShanti, oh and so many others.  I forgot I used to use that picture of Errol Flynn as my avatar.

Hey, it's great to see you posting again, Zhen. You're one of the old names yourself, you know. Plenty of those builds on the Non-Star Wars Characters thread are yours.

^_^ Thanks, it's good to be back.  The whole hullabaloo over TLJ (I'm not a fan) kinda got me back into Star Wars (I never really left, just got distracted with other franchises).

Funny, I basically had the exact same experience. Hadn't done any Saga for a few years, but the new trilogy got me back into Saga, and now I'm running a campaign through Facebook with some friends. Forgot what I was missing out on!
