Alderaan in turmoil!

Neeko and Taryn attend a conference concerning the refugee situation, hosted by Viceroy Bail Chamas of Alderaan. Karro Panteer, a rival for the throne, is also in attendance along with politicians from throughout the core worlds.

It turns out that Karro Panteer is planning a coup, aided by the Viceroy's own chamberlain. This old man is revealed to be an infamous Sith Lord named Deleus, who once conquered Rodia and enslaved its people! After Deleus was betrayed by his own followers, he fled to the Republic disguised as a refugee and was given asylum on Alderaan, where he wormed his way into political circles.

Neeko and Taryn prevent the coup and try to take out Deleus, but he escapes, though badly wounded...

Our heroes are on the trail of Lord Deleus, which leads them to Brentaal and then Ord Mantell. There they find a black market Bith surgeon who performed cybernetic surgery on Deleus after the last fight. It seems Deleus is now trying to cobble together a fighting force from among various criminal elements, like Maul & Savage in TCW.

The party fight their way off Ord Mantell with the Bith surgeon in tow, but Taryn's starfighter is damaged and she can't follow Neeko and the others all the way to Coruscant. She stops off for repairs at a small mining colony, sending out a signal to Coruscant but unsure whether her message got through.

On cue, Deleus and his new gang show up, raiding the colony. The miners are too terrified to fight, despite Taryn's encouragement, so she heads out to take on the whole gang herself, like a lone marshal defending a wild west town. :) First she deals with a trio of Deleus' best men armed with electrostaff type weapons, and after they've weakened her, Deleus attacks her himself. Taryn is the better swordsman, but Deleus uses Improved Dark Rage and hatred simultaneously to wear her down. It feels like you're being burned from the inside out when you fight him.  :o

Taryn still manages to prevail and disarms him, demanding his surrender. But he responds by Force choking her into submission. "I am a Dark Lord of the Sith. And YOU. WILL. DIE!"

Then Deleus suddenly finds himself encircled by the miners, who have found their courage and grabbed whatever weapons they could lay their hands on to come to Taryn's defense. Deleus laughs. Are they seriously going to attack a Sith Lord with pitchforks and butcher knives?? But one of his crew tells him a fleet of ships has just entered the system. It's the Jedi! Taryn's signal did get through after all, and following Raith's Force intuition, Arrum Qel-Rana has brought a hammerhead cruiser and accompanying fighters, and Deleus is forced to back down and flee. :)

how interesting.  what a rich setting with all the star wars tropes yet the freedom to tell unhindered stories.

Yes. :) This is the first time I've used the "ordinary people fighting back" trope. It felt very Star Wars (plus, I didn't want to punish Taryn too much for disarming Deleus instead of just killing him, which she easily could have done!)

Starship update: I've done stats for a courier ship based on the HH-87 Starhopper as seen in TCW. During the dark age, the holonet did not exist outside the core worlds, so small courier ships were often used to carry messages between star systems. I like the design of the HH-87, so I've used it as a model for the Fortnight Raven which you can now find on page 1 of this thread. :) The stats presented below are for the HH-87 with a generic pilot, to make it easier to use in somebody else's campaign.

Spoiler: Fortnight Raven stats: (hover to show)

A new PC joins the group - Khars Lovekill, Kerkoiden mercenary extraordinaire.  8) The team follows a lead on Lord Deleus, traveling to Corbos, site of an ancient battle between light and dark. It seems Deleus is obsessed with rediscovering the powers of Karness Muur and co. and was hoping to find relics of them on Corbos. Our heroes don't find Deleus, but they do encounter plenty of Sithspawn beasts that they fight off. However, Khars is infected with a rakghoul virus. Taryn is able to put him into a Force trance to slow the virus, which gives them time to get Khars back to Coruscant, where he is healed by Jedi Master Wuhai.

This is the first time I can recall when my hyperspace travel rules played a significant part. Using my system, it took 165 minutes for the PCs ship to get from Corbos to Coruscant. And Khars being in a Force trance meant the virus only attacked him once every 50 minutes instead of every 5 minutes.

The PCs end up fighting for one Sith against another when they sign up as mercenaries hired by the Sith-controlled world of Lampadas; they join in a preemptive strike against a new clone army being created by Lord Deleus. Created by Osslac using a combination of Kaminoan-inspired science and Sith sorcery, these rapid-aged clone soldiers could represent a threat not only to Deleus' Sith neighbors but to the Republic as well.

An indecisive battle occurs on Iridonia, with both sides falling back to lick their wounds. The PCs' allegiance to the Republic is revealed, and Taryn advocates a combined effort with Lampadas against their mutual enemy, Deleus. Other Jedi leaders torpedo the idea of any formal alliance with a Sith-controlled world, so Taryn suggests a more informal arrangement. (Warning: political stuff coming. :) )

The Jedi Council together with planets like Alderaan are against trade with Sith worlds, because it's immoral to support or recognize such regimes as legitimate. But other core worlds like Brentaal and Neimoidia want more liberal trade laws. It's known that Deleus still has some agents with influence on Brentaal, and Taryn argues that they can weaken his influence by allowing Brentaal to trade with Deleus' enemy Lampadas through a neutral third party.

Although Chancellor Miraan dislikes this hypocrisy, she agrees the idea has merit, but she needs political cover if she's going to approve it. So she decides to send the PCs to sound out Viceroy Bail Chamas of Alderaan (who owes his throne to the PCs). If Alderaan gives at least tacit support to this, it will give the Jedi Chancellor the political cover she needs with other conservative core worlds.

(Taryn has a very realpolitik outlook for a Jedi. She would probably make a good Chancellor some day. ;) )

Our heroes travel to Ord Mantell, which was controlled by the Hutts when they were last there. Now it's within Deleus' sphere of influence, and the PCs discover that a mercenary corporation, GalaCor Industries, has moved in and is trying to drive out local business owners. GalaCor has also hired bounty hunters to shanghai people from rural areas and ship them out as slave labor. The PCs rescue a group of abductees and loot an old backup hyperdrive from the slavers' ship, which later comes in handy. They also learn of a nascent resistance movement which is gathering support.

The PCs' investigation leads them to the Horuz system where GalaCor has a shipyard, and they're building frigates for Deleus' growing army. The party's stealthiness isn't up to par, and they have to make a hasty escape, fending off pursuing Sith fighters. With their main hyperdrive disabled, they are able to escape on their looted backup, but it's a close shave. By the time they make the jump to lightspeed, all the PCs and A4-19 have used up all their Force points. First time that that has happened. :)

The Hammerhead-class cruiser of the New Sith Wars bears many similarities to its counterparts of bygone centuries. Due to dwindling resources in the Republic, it lacks some of the amenities of its predecessors, but it remains a dependable combat vessel, patrolling the borders and keeping the core worlds safe from Sith incursions. (This build is RAW, and there's simply no way to equip a frigate as well as it's done in the KotOR campaign guide without cheating. :) )

The Hammerhead-class Cruiser
Colossal (frigate) capital ship
Init -1; Senses Perception +6
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Defenses Ref 15 (flat-footed 12), Fort 62; +12 armor
hp 800; DR 15; SR 125; Threshold 162

Ranged 3 double light turbolaser batteries +7* (see below) and
2 point-defense laser cannon batteries +11 (see below) and
1 tractor beam battery +7* (see below)
Fighting Space 1 square (starship scale); Cover total
Base Atk +2; Grp +79
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Abilities Str 114, Dex 16, Con —, Int 16
Special Qualities 2 docking clamps, 2 medical suites
Skills Initiative -1, Mechanics +6, Perception +6, Pilot -1, Use Computer +9

Update, plus a house rule you might find useful.

A couple of short missions to help the local resistance on Ord Mantell, with Khars, Taryn and Vai Gandora as PCs. While the Jedi can't mount a full invasion to free the world, by aiding the local rebels they can make the situation too risky for Deleus to use Ord Mantell as a staging point for future coreward attacks.

After the first mission, Deleus sends a new Sith acolyte named Prince Nestro to deal with the rebels. The rebels successfully attack his new forward base, but Vai is captured by Prince Nestro in the process, and he retreats with his Jedi prisoner.

Houserule: The actual fight between Vai and Nestro was played out in part, and he separated her from the others, but the rest of the capture was basically hand-waved. In exchange, Vai gains an additional Force point which she can save and use later.

This houserule was adapted from the BASH! rpg. It basically rewards players for going along with their character being captured for story reasons. They get something out of it, and they're guaranteed a chance to escape or be rescued later in the story. It's good for those Princess Leia moments. :)
