...thats why he adjusted the plasma flow that way, if you change it back you destroy the improvement. Valen tried to explain to Theodan. Valen had been trying for the last 10 minutes after Theodan noticed the rifles kick was different; but there was a limit to how far a scholar-turned-solider's knowledge of plasma rifles went. Ok... I get that but is there some way... Theodan was cut off by the ship's PA, captains Daru's voice coming over the comm This is Captain Daru, VD AS FT1 report to the hangar bay. Theodan looked to his chrono, Not deployment time yet, I wonder what she needs us for. Only one way to find out. and with that the pair gathered up the several rifles and pistols they had been testing on the range and returned the tuning tools to the armory on their way past it.
As Theodan rounded the corner into the hangar bay he spotted Rakos and Daru standing near a droid. As Theodan came up to the group he gave the Captain a respectful nod and placed the rifle he had been carrying on a nearby table. Theodan shot a questioning glance at Rakos. Then wondered why, obviously the captain was about to explain their summons, At least I trust my squad mates.
After Valen walked up Captain Daru began, Meet, MK-D33 or "Dee". He is a mechanics droid I'm assigning your squad for the mission. I wasn't comfortable with how far you would be from FT 2 and 3 so I requested reinforcements. I'll let ya'll talk now, you have 30 minutes before inspection. With that Captian Daru left.
Theodan assessed the droid, Mechanics, eh. How good would you be at sealing a door, or a room?

The droid shifted its torso platform to fully face the soldier. The pistons in its "neck" extended until the boxy head and singular red lens matched Theodan's gaze.

"P-p-please clarify-fy the request." It shifted to look past him to the nearest doorway, a magnetically sealing archway connecting the interior of the hangar bay. "I-I-I-I currently estimate t-t-twenty sev-v-ven methods for sealing the entrrrryway behind you."

Something was obvious off about the droid. One look at its dirty white armor would be enough to determine age might be a real issue. It -"Dee"- also looked like it had been through an electro-wringer...but that wasn't terribly unusual in of itself for a droid. The interesting bit would be a small, circular imprinted symbol on the armor near the console keyboard below its torso.

"Craftsmanship-ship-ship seems shoooooooooddy." It remarked, lowering its head once again and looking at each of the crewmen in its newest assignment. "We b-b-built them better in the oldddddd d-days."

Theodan reacted quickly to the droids comment about sealing the door, No, no, I meant doors in the museum. If we need to seal a door behind us to make sure no one gained entry after could you do it? wait a second it speaks basic not binary. In a mechanic droid? odd.
Theodan noticed the small imperial emblem, Interesting, I'm sure intelligence got everything good form it before wiping his memory. Shouldn't be a problem. This droid was quickly seeming to be more than a normal droid. And why would the Captain send a maintenance droid with them? Theodan asked about doors because that was his only idea of why they might need one. A very strong sense that something else was going on began to build in Theodan.
Theodan laughed at the "old days comment" What, like yourself? wait am I bantering with a robot?

I am just about to retire to my chambers for meditation when I hear the summons and I meet the rest of the group up near the hangar bay.

Hmmm, a Separatist droid.   I have not seen one in 32 years.  I have heard that some of the models continue to be used by fringe elements, but this is something new.

When Theodan engages in conversation with the droid, a small smile grows on my lips.  This should be interesting.

"C-c-correct." Dee nodded his head as the vocabulator struggled to produce more conversation. There were occasional static pauses and glitchy syllables that ground their way into his speech patterns.

"B-b-before thiz azzignment, I-I-I eztimate your lllllozzez at zeventy-four p-p-percent. With me, that drrrropz to l-l-lezz than thirty-nine p-percent. You organicz arrrre a-a-alwayz easier to dizazzzzemble." If he was joking, there was very little indication of it. "If imperial doorrrrrrrz are ztill being mazz produced, then b-b-breaching them iz eazy. ZZZZZZealing them phyzically would b-b-be better. W-W-We alwayzzzz cuztom produced entrywayz to p-p-prevent rapid plazma entry. It provided at-at-at leazt fifty-four zecondz to-to-to prepare fffffffor c-c-combat. Lightzabers reduced that time to zixteen secondz...but we-we-we inztalled two zetz of blazt doors to prevent rapid plazma entry at zenzeti-i-ivvvvvve ztationz to avoid r-r-rapid crew depletion."

Dee looked at the doorway beyond the group for a long moment, as if expecting something to come out of it. It got...awkward. Then- "We-We-We will nnnnot have the optionnnn of deprezzuring chamberzzz. Combaaaaat iz likely."

70% huh. Theodan wan't one to blindly trust in numbers, but the droid didn't seem one for melodrama.

Theodan was aware of vaguely of how well blast doors worked but the numbers seemed a bit high. Maybe left over propaganda programming. Or maybe the droid is embellishing all on its own.

Theodan became concerned at the droids long pause and his comment after looking at the door. Finally his trust in the droid broke. Hey, you know not to space us right? stop looking at the door that way. Theodan was suddenly very aware of the hanger he stood in, with only a thin blue screen and a droid between him and space.

"Zzzzuch an action wo-wo-would be detrrrimental to mizzion zuccezz; impro-pro-probability iz high." Dee replied amid several grinding and choppy bineric noises.

Dee shifted his treads slowly from person to person until he faced them. His neck extended and the red eye moved to eye level again. This it "winked" and the electronic sound of a holopic file being captured was audible. It was definitely weird but an explanation followed.

"I-I-I-I ha-ha-have been informed yyyyyou are mizzion critical azzetz. It-it izzz imporrrtant not to confuzzzze you wi-with rrrepublic sold- *Kzzzzt* with imperial soldiers." Upon completion the droid rolled several paces back and waited for further instruction. The boxy head continued to shift its single red eye from member to member to track vital information about their clothing and weapons...until he spotted the plasma rifle slung over Theodan's shoulder [or wherever] and reached for it. The eye shifted from red, to green, then yellow and subtle whirring noises sounded from his processor. "Thi-Thi-Thiz weaponnn iz-iz emitting additional heat in the-the-the upperrr re-re-receiver. Initial-al-al diagnnnostic zuggeztz additional modificationz. We-We-We would nnnot have uzzzed zuch zpecific alterna-a-ations during mazz production-on-on againzt imperial forces *Kzzzt* rrrepublic forcez during combat-at-at."

Dee "What are your combat capabilities." Valen had never worked with a droid before, and didn't want one that would slow his squad down.

"The MMMK zeriez iz not-not-not capable of zuuuztained com-combat operrrationnnz. Expennndable commmbat unitz are-are-are designed forrr zuch in-in-interactionz." The neck pistons hissed and rotated to face the other human. His hands were still moving to grab at the rifle secured to Theodan.

"MK serrriez droidz arrre zu-zu-zuperior mobile mmmodelz. I-I-I am capable-ble of re-recorrrded ground speedz of th-th-thirty two point one nine kilome-me-meterz per galactic ztandarrrd hour and-and-and maximum zpee-ee-eedz of zixty fourrr point thrrree zeven kilometerz-terz-terz per hour-hour. A number of tools exploded from its arms, sparking, whirring and slicing through the air as he closed on Theodan. It didn't make it any less intimidating that the head was still facing toward Valen.

"In-In-In the event vital zelf de-de-defenze prrrotocolz must be enacted one-one Arakyd Induztriez M-CR-1127 concu-cu-cuzzion rrrifle iz integrrrated into my chazze. "Do-Do-Do you rrrequire a demonztrrration?" A medium sized port popped open in Dee's frame and a throaty, mechanical charging noise filled the air. It was pointed ominously at Theodan, specifically at crotch level.

I strive to conceal a growing smile on my face at the antics of this droid.  To say he is full of character would be a grave understatement.  He is overly chatty, unlike myself, but I could grow to like him.

Theodan had long lost it with the droid. Taking his vibroblade off his belt he did his best to parry the droids arm as he danced to one side. The several exploded appendages made it difficult and the droid simply began rotating to match his own movement. Darn passive aggressive droids. Make one comment about them killing you and then they really try to. Hey droid cut that out!
Theodan began to shout a list of commands at the droid trying to get it to stop, occasionally appealing to his squad mates for help. Hit the off switch or something! Knockoff a track! Do something!
The droid was begging to turn tighter into his movement and push back against the bayonet controlling one of its arms hard.

As the droid advances on Theodan, I chuckle at the antics.  I am fortunate that I am not the target of this droid's attentions.  However, when my squad leader appeals for my help, I respond.

I reach out and try to take hold of the droid.

As GM

Checking the grapple rules the grapple lands but you must now make opposed grapple checks which I did to save time:
Spoiler: rolls (hover to show)

As Theodan dances to the side he sees the considerable arm of Rakos reach towards the droid and grab it. Dee is still able to rotate slightly and tries to do so as Rakos reaches in with a second arm to try and restrain the droid further. Theodan seeing what Rakos is trying to do he stops trying to move out of the droid's way and changes stance to try and push back using the bayonet, now firmly entangled in Dee's assortment of appendages, as leverage to control the droid. Smoke beings to fill the noses of Rakos and Theodan as they struggle to keep the mechanical muscles of the droid form winning what was now essentially a shoving match. Come on Valen.
We can do this! I'm not sure what 'it' is, but I don't want to get shot by this crazy droid!
Theodan realized that the situation had become ridiculous awhile ago, but he also realized it was a good opportunity for a team building exercise, not a bad idea to have a little fun before combat. It might be there last chance. Don't think that enjoy your self. Come on Valen grab on and push against it!

The droid's head swiveled around to look Theodan in the eye. The glitchy voice sounded utterly confused as the organics pushed against him and held him down. "I am-am-am confuuuuuzed. Is thiz-thiz parrrrt of the demmmonztration?"

The integrated rifle powered up...a little label just above the port opening has the tiny words "Bass Canon" etched into the exterior blinked on, backlit by red LEDs.

Spoiler: GM talk (hover to show)
The last thing Theodan had time to registrar before the blast was the bass cannon lights turning on. He smiled briefly before leaning harder into the droid. Then Theodan felt like he was hit by a bass cannon. Though he was off to the side of the main blast it was still enough to knock the feet from under him and apparently Rakos as well as he suddenly went flying. With the force Rakos and Theodan had been applying to the droid it suddenly snapped back and Theodan went flying sliding a few meters across the polished floor of the hanger. Several near by techs that had been watching FT1's antics laughed, and one of them was similarly caught by the blast and knocked over. The tech's friends laughed as they helped him back up. Other people further away and not aware of what was happening were surprised by the sudden loud sound. Some jumping in freight others ducking for cover and one security guard drew his pistol looking for the source of the sound. Near the group though it was as if laughing gas had been released.
That was loud. To Theodan it felt like he had been thinking that for hours, maybe his whole life. It took him a few seconds to regain his bearings but he elected to stay on the floor laughing at the pure insanity of what had happened. Theodan rolled his head over and saw Rakos also on the ground looking back at him. Theodan, seeing his squad mate in such a ridicules pose laughed, all the harder knowing he was similarly fantastic looking himself. Aww. I'm going to scrap that droid. Theodan laughed harder....
