Moist air rushed passed Joro. His chest burns. No amount of training could prepare him for this: endlessly running through mountains and forests, for hours and hours and hours...And it still not being enough. He just wasn't moving fast enough.

"Just...Keep...Moving...Move!"

Jagged stone surrounded him and rose hundreds of meters into the air. He'd been fortunate to find the spiteful looking valley. All night the dense forest clutched at him and slowed his progress, ripping away chunks of his tattered robes. There hadn't been a shred of light to guide him. The cliff's edge caught him off guard and nearly swallowed him. Joro had been lucky. Then, at first light, the length and depth of the valley is revealed: a sprawling rift in the world that stretched into the horizon. The soup mist rolled over the edge and hid the valley floor. It promised respite...survival.

An ominous hum fills the air above Joro. He cranes his good eye behind just in time: a small ship breaks through the soupy layers of mist.

A republic ship? Joro squints harder. No...its been re-purposed, the republic symbols re-branded with sith designs.

"D'Arvit!" Joro curses, feeling his chest tighten. "D'Arvit, D'ARVIT!"

Joro turns and sprints deeper into a growing maze of viscous, scraggy stone. A voice echoes through the misty air, just over the roar of the ship:

"...go after a Jedi unless we know what they can do! We played this game once already, and only because we knew we could win. This little bothan prick is the kind of trouble we DON'T like, understand!? I never saw anyone do stuff like this before, not even in the war!"

"STAY IN THE SHIP THEN, COWARDS! DXUN SHOULD HAVE SWALLOWED YOU! I'LL DRINK FROM HIS SKULL AND LORD VLAVEX WILL PRAISE ME!"

Fear swells within the lone bothan. That one...he was nearly as vicious as the Sith Lord. Joro runs faster, hoping to lose himself in the valley and escape forever.

It isn't meant to be. Four hours pass before Joro's anxious body senses him. The distance shrinks. With every step into the evolving maze of twisting stone, Joro loses his lead. The Sith apprentice's hunger. twisted and gnawing, swells within the force until Joro knows he is close...

"KEEP RUNNING, LITTLE DOG!" The guttural voice bellows. "THE LAST THING YOU SEE BEFORE I TAKE YOUR FINAL EYE WILL BE MY FACE!"

Joro believes him. An image forms in his mind of wandering through the wilderness: emaciated, helpless...and oozing blood from empty sockets.

'No...I c-can't let him...Not l-like that.' Joro stops and looks frantically around him. The walls are steep and sharp; stones litter the ground; fog still fills the air; odd rock formations rise eerily through the air. One in particular catches his eye...

The apprentice pounds into view. Joro watches him approach, slow, and then stop. Anxiety grips his aching lungs at the sight of him: Smooth skinned, devious and vindictive, with a carnal hunger lurking within that terrifies Joro. He speaks: "Ohhh...your closssssse! I can sense it!"

Joro closes his eyes and whispers to anyone listening for help...but no one answers. So he waits.

The apprentice moves forward. Joro remains motionless, fearing even to breath. When the pressure of the dark side is its strongest, Joro springs his trap. He grunts and kicks with what strength he has, planting his feet into a stone column that towers over the valley floor. It collapses. The darksider looks up, ignites his lightsaber and cries "What-ACK!!" Joro hears the stones break apart and slam into the ground, the only reply nature chooses to grant the apprentice.

Joro hears nothing after the stones settle. He peers over the edge when his breath returns: no movement below. Stillness. The bothan climbs down, hissing in pain as the jagged stones cut into his palms and shins and feet once again. A wave of exhaustion rolls over him...but the thought of a lightsaber and some kind of protection spurs him forward.

Its too late. Joro doesn't realize his mistake until the stones he search through shift, and then explode underneath. The apprentice's counter attack is flawless.

"YOU!" He rages, "HOW DARE YOU THINK STONES CAN KILL ME!"

Joro chokes for air as a powerful hand clamps around his throat. Instantly, he is lifted off his feet and slammed into the rocky wall behind him. Dread overwhelms him after the second impact...then the third...

"I REFUSE TO LET YOU BREATH MY AIR!" The gloved hand flips Joro through the air and onto the stoney floor. Pain rips through him, stars flash before his eyes as he looks into the fog clinging midway up the valley's walls. The apprentice releases Joro's neck and stands above him with a wicked smile. Joro bleeds from his nose, mouth and ears.

"Rise, Androvich...and you will be known as a Darth this day." The human whispers smugly. The lightsaber raises, glowing with crimson hate. It comes down. Joro, finally, gives into his fear and screams...

...and sees the world vanish into darkness.

"NO! DAMMIT, NO NO!" The voice fades rapidly as Joro falls deeper and deeper into the darkness. He is passing through the stone...phasing...into the depths of the valley...into the heart of the stone...into nothingness...oblivion...
