Star Wars:  Loose Ends

It is a time of celebration in the galaxy.  The Battle of Ruusan has seen the end of the Sith and one thousand years of conflict.  The Republic stands on the brink of an unprecedented peace.

With the destruction of the Brotherhood of Darkness, many dark-side Force-users formerly under the thrall of the Sith have scattered into the galaxy.  As the Jedi push to reclaim worlds formerly held by the New Sith Empire, encounters between Jedi and these dark-siders become increasingly more frequent.

Having tracked such a dark-sider to the desert planet of Qi Lozar and to ensure the safety of the inhabitants, a group of Jedi Knights makes preperations to locate and confront their foe . . .

As your small ship approaches Qi Lozar, the engines continue to sputter.  It’s lingering damage from the last encounter with the dark-sider’s small starfighter, which managed to give him nearly a three day headstart.  But there was no other place for him to run.  The damage he had sustained in return made Qi Lozar the only possible place he could have gone.  A quick scan of the area reveals an ion drive trail leading down to a community on the surface.

Once you break the atmosphere, the community comes into view:  a few dozen adobe buildings of various sizes grouped together, with a single small building each situated in the several open landing fields on the outskirts.  The dark-sider’s small fighter can be seen in one of the landing fields next to its attendant building, with a small freighter sitting in another field nearby.  No one hails you during the approach to an empty field, and no one appears when you touch down.

Once the ramp is lowered, you are blasted by a hot breeze.  The sun blazes unmercifully overhead and sporadic dust devils form, swirl, and dissipate within seconds.  As you stare out across the desolate expanse, your mind reverts to the task ahead of you.  Somewhere on this barren world is death, and you shouldn’t keep him waiting.

As they approach Qi Lozar Leda looks around at the others; Knight Tau, Knight Celi and droid, Knight Arkk. This is one of the very few times she's been in a group this big. During the war time the jedi were spread across the galaxy helping the republic deal with Sith incursions as needed. She was used to it being just her and Master Melark; or her, her Master, and one other. She struggles to draw any memories or conversations she has about these three to the forefront of her mind as they enter the influence of the planets gravity.

After landing Leda snaps her belt off and exits her seat to collect her gear. She rechecks her equipment; making sure the med kit and surgery kit are at the top of her pack, that her armor is secure and sitting correctly, the medi sensor is in the utility belt, and her lightsaber is in a readily accessible spot. She puts the all-temperature cloak on over her armor, then straps the field kit pack to her back. Looking out at the barren atmosphere and environment she turns to the other three. Let's get to it my fellow knights. Looks like this one is going to get a little rough.

Arkk is quietly meditating as they come in to the landing zone from orbit. This type of assignment isn't anything new to him. He been chosen to hunt down Sith Lord since he was Knighted a few years back. When the ship lands, Arkk come put of his trance and puts on his heavy cloak. His senses turn outward as he looks down the ramp, as though Arkk can almost taste the power of the Sith. It's a dark feeling, but very faint. Arkk checks his lightsabers; his only treasured objects he ever owned. The hilt were a gift from his Master; the only person Arkk ever considered family.

He puts those thoughts away and puts his full focus into the mission as hand. Number 20 was going to be his toughest hunt yet.

"Is everyone ready? This hunt will be intense. Let's get on with it" and walks down the ramp into the hot sun.

((To GM: Could we see any sign of life in the community as we touched down? Also, does our ship have any pilots or crew, or did one of our own fly the ship?))

As the others made their way around the ship, Lian remains on the bridge, staring out one of the transparisteel viewports and off into the distance. She was "reaching out", trying to sense the darksider through the Force, something she had constantly been trying to do since the beginning of their journey, bordering almost on obesssion, and it was only getting worse after their encounter in space.

Lian was the newest knight of the group, though hardly the least experienced. There were stories, rumours that she had participated heavily in the war, even in the Battle of Ruusan. Some said that her mastery of Ataru was incredible, and that she had gained a massive body count over the course of the war. Others however, were suspicious, as there was not only no record of Lian's training prior to becoming a Jedi Knight, but also no record of her in the Jedi archives, except for her name as one of those formerly enlisted in the Army of Light.

[Sense Force (Dark Side 1 or higher only)]

Despite taking the time for this 'search', the Umbaran is soon behind the others, wearing her field kit and a high-collared garment made up of numerous strands of light blue material that looked more befitting of a bureaucrat than a Jedi. She is the first down the boarding ramp, seeming almost at home in this desolate landscape.

For now, Lian does not say anything, merely nodding at the others to show that she is ready to move on. She looks back up the ramp expectantly, waiting for her two droids to come down after here.

The first droid, which could easily be described as a "eye droid", was called Six (short for S6-R3). Installed with a security camera and a basic toolkit, Lian would often use Six to scout ahead or to access computers for her. It was her personal droid, the Umbaran having kept it for several years.

The second droid was a more recent purchase, a Czerka Corporation protocol droid that Lian planned to use as a guide and translator on her journeys, especially this one.

((Leaving droid control to the GM, as well as the designation for the protocol droid~))

Leda is able to recall only a few things about her companions:  Arkk is a combination of solemn and somber.  He speaks little but has a reputation as an accomplished Sith hunter.  Of Lian, she can think of almost nothing except as a reference in Lord Hoth's Army of Light.  Her memory fails recalling anything of Korif at the moment, either.

As Arkk stretches out with his senses, his Force perception detects a faint dark-side signature at the extreme edge of his scan, nearly 90 kilometers to the north-east.

As Lian looks out the viewport of the ship, she detects Arkk's probe through the Force and also locates the dark-side signature to the north-east.  As she debarks the ship, faint traces of life in the town can at last be seen, with a couple of distant faces glancing towards the newly landed ship before resuming their own business.  Her droids follow a short distance behind, high-pitched squeals sounding between them as they exchange information in Binary.

Leda follows Arkk off the ship as she notices the faces of a few inhabitants she smiles to show no hostile intent and put them at ease. She's about to check for signs of the darksider when she notices the others heading off in a certain direction with a determined gait. Leda follows instead figuring they have already picked up the trail. She keeps her senses alert for any danger on their treck.

The few faces that are visible to Leda flicker only slightly at her smile before turning away.  As her gaze takes in the surrounding arid landscape, the desert pavement stretches for kilometers in all directions, mixed with some boulders and some scrub brush.  That, undoubtedly, will be the biggest challenge.  No animals are visible outside the settlement as far as the eye can see.

Perception 28 to stay alert for any dangerous surprises, or notice other pertinent information about the surroundings.

Perception check to avoid surprises +13 mod, result of a 23 (I hate not being able to show it)

As the group walks down the desert path, Arkk keeps his sense attuned as much as possible. The presence he felt was strong enough to be felt also (by his own estimates) about 80-90 kms away. This means this fight will not be one he can do alone.

Alone; something Arkk is used to feeling for a long time now. His strength was trusted most of the time to be able to overwhelm most Sith, but something is different here. The presence seem almost ancient; a "deeper" Dark then he felt before. Some how though he knew he was ready. The team the Council put together was strong in its own way. He trusts that.

((We're still in the community, correct? I'm going to assume we totally didn't just bypass it xD))

[Perception check: 18! (12+6)]

Stopping suddenly, Lian does her best to gather the team around herself and the droids, so that everyone is at least within earshot, before moving off to the side of the road, so that they're not in anyone's way.

She turns to the protocol droid, "Please tell us your designation, and more about this planet."

((Also, we should probably wait for tomcat~))

With almost no cover in this area, it's easy to see that no one is lying in wait for you to pass by.  Rather the opposite.  One thing that you all notice is the lack of attention given to the group.  It feels like only a few people have even cared to look your way.  It doesn't feel sinister, it's just unusual.

Leda notices that the ground seems mostly flat out west, with only a few hills and other raised areas before rising sharply into mountains towards the east.  The plant life is mostly stunted and small, and upon closer examination, a small colony of insects is seen scouring the area near a large rock, foraging for food amongst the few flowers and cacti nearby.

At Lian's request, the protocol droid draws itself upright and speaks with a pleasnat masculine voice.  "I am R3-T8-GE3, but you may call me Tate.  According to my databanks, Qi Lozar is a desert planet in the Grumani Sector, a short distance from the Hydian Way, galactic grid coordinates M-17.  The proximity of Qi Lozar to it's sun means that the day temperature is greater than average compared to other desert planets.  The night temperatures can seem very cold by contrast.  Qi Lozar has a reputation for being the last stop of many hermits and individuals of ill repute who desire to retire in peace.  In recent years, however, there has been an increase of refugees displaced by the most recent Republic-Sith conflict that have settled here as well.  Despite the heat, Qi Lozar has several native flora and fauna that are well adapted to the dry climate, and many settlers have brought other species with them."

:ooc: Sorry guys! I was not in front of a PC, unless it had to do with work, for the last two days! I am here. Going to open with my PC's background, so sorry for the long lead in.

He sat in his meditative position while waiting for the ship to reach its destination. It was as his master had taught him - peace and rest allowed the Force to move through him. By so doing, the calm heightened his awareness and prepared his physical form for the upcoming mission.

Korf Tau was a human male that had been abandoned as a youth by his mother in the shadowy sub-levels of Coruscant. Left to perish, he instead was taken in by a family and raised among the other children as one of their own - but it was for a dark purpose. The man and woman he would call his mother and father had taken many children with the ultimate goal of creating a band of pick-pockets and thieves. His earliest memories were of running, ducking, dodging and jumping through the infrastructure of the city sub-levels. He was good at it, too. His body was thin and dexterous which made him a favorite to his 'father' and always granted him the task of cutting purses from unsuspecting commuters. There was something else about Korif that separated him from his 'siblings' - he had a knack for foresight and extreme luck. What he nor his family knew was that the Force moved through him, and so destined him for something better.

When he turned six his world changed. Korif returned home in the early evening (yes, even at his early age he was put on the streets to 'work') to find his house full of city police; his parents in binders outside the house and his brothers and sisters gathered near. When he was seen, he tried to run but he was bested by a young woman, not of the city officials, but a padawan from the Jedi Temple. Her name was Breya and she had been made part of the City Criminal Division, by the Temple, to help in rooting out the sub-level crime and children bondage.

The fact that she had countered his every move made Korif marvel and he instinctively opened his mind to learn more, only to find that she was aware of him within the Force and responded, "You cannot get away, little one. Stop. You have potential beyond this place. Come to me."

Korif did as she said.

His life after that had been a whirlwind of training and adventure, as he was inducted into the Jedi Temple as a padawan. His assigned master was a Kel Dorr, named Val Orn, and Korif spent the next sixteen years under his tutelage. It was Val Orn who gave Korif Tau his name from the Kel Dorr language, which meant unchained one, describing his early life in bondage. Korif worked diligently to meet his master's expectations and to exceed them. He trained his body into a fit, athletic build, and his mind in the ways of the Force. He learned his master's speech. He learned the ways of the Jedi.

The lightsaber became his passion and he displayed exceptional skill with the weapon. When he finished his  search for his crystal, Korif introduced a new design that allowed his cycling field energizers to amplify the blade and increase its cutting capacity. He was held out as an example to his fellow padawans for his creative thought. Val Orn quickly taught him lessons to quell any personal pride that could stem from Korif's achievement and the young man took the teaching well - speaking no further of it.

In his restive state, Korif smiled to himself as the memories moved through his mind. These were the things that gave him strength. They were the things that eased the pain. They were the thoughts that staved off the bitter anger he felt at the Sith and Lord Kaan. It was on Ruusan that Korif's master had been slain. It was due to the new Sith Wars that Korif Tau had attained Jedi Knight, but the loss was grievous. Save for Breya who had taken him out of his dark youth, Val Orn was the only true family Korif knew and he had been killed at the hands of the Sith.

When the mission orders had come up for a team of Jedi Knights to travel to Qi Lozar to eradicate any Sith presence, Korif had quickly volunteered. He was not here for revenge, he told himself. He was here to honor his Master.

Korif Tau heard his fellow Jedi as they prepared. The ship had arrived. He stood from his meditative sitting position and began to grab his few articles. He donned his all-temp cloak over his loose fitting outfit. Korif did not wear the traditional robes of his mentor, but instead wore a loose fitting tunic and pants that allowed for agile movement. The cloak fastened about his neck, he hooked his utility belt around his waist where hung his lightsaber. He then walked from the ship's inner chamber to the airlock where his companions waited.

"Is everyone ready? This hunt will be intense. Let's get on with it", he heard Arkk ask, and Korif gave a silent nod.

They moved out and down the street of the rustic desert town. "Not a very warm place here and I am not talking about the environment," he said to no one in particular. Korif had not spent a great deal of study on Qi Lozar, but he ran through the information he did know.
